The profession of architecture, the possible career as an architect, taking steps to gain a position and education as well as the set growth and prospects of this profession. According to Lee W. Waldrep (2010), author of the book Becoming a Architect “A Guide to Careers in Design, an architect is an imaginative person who designs a wide range of structures for buildings”(p. 2). These structures not only have to be aesthetically pleasing, but must also meet the safety requirements. Architects have to compete with other architects to attract customers by presenting designs. Then apply for a Masters Degree in Architecture and find an internship along the way. Architecture program graduates are needed by the Oregon Board of Architect Examiners (OBAE) to complete the Internal Development Program under the supervision of a practicing, licensed architect. These internships can either be planned and approved directly by an architectural office or through a network of personal contacts. After completing the required hours for the internship, the person must take the Architectural Admission Exam offered by OBAE. When an architect is influenced they create. They make what they see in their mind. But people could always improve what they’ve already created. Homes at one point were only one story houses. Interior Design is recognized as a stressful career due to the demanding clients and deadlines established. Commercial or contract designers tend to have higher stress levels than residential designers because commercial designers have strict deadlines to meet since their clients are companies or corporations. To manage stress levels, all designers must possess certain skills. They must be able to manage time, communicate fully and effectively with the clients, apply their creativity to projects, and make decisions. By learning and applying these skills to their work life, Interior Designers will be able to lower their stress levels and be more successful. Since Interior Design is such a client-collaborative career, a variety of skills including time management, communication, decision making, and creativity, are needed to be successful in the field.

Here I sit five years later, at the age of seventeen dreaming of becoming an architect. If it wasn’t for that specific day I don’t know if I would ever have realized one of the reasons I hoped to become an architect. There are 25 major specialties in engineering that are recognized by professional societies. In any one of those 25 specialties, the goal of the engineer is the same. The goal is to be able to come up with a cost effective design that aids people in the tasks they face each day. Whether it be the coffee machine in the morning or the roads and highways we travel, or even the cars we travel in, it was all an idea that started with an engineer. Someone engineered each idea to make it the best solution to a problem. Even though engineer’s goals are similar, there are many different things that engineers do within their selected field of engineering. Interior designers also help make sure that they are designing a safe environment for their client. They look to make sure that it is free of toxic materials, it has appropriate furniture, its energy efficient, it is a universal acciable design, it’s up to date, and its preserving the environment. People have to go through a long process to be able to officially claim themselves as licensed architects. They would need to go through “completing a professional degree in architecture, gaining relevant experience through a paid internship, and passing the Architect Registration Examination” (“Architects”). The first two steps are typical for most careers, but the Architect Registration Examination is not. It did not occur to me that I would need to pass an exam which sounds stressful. However, I know it is necessary for a job like architecture as it deals with developing buildings which should be safe for the public so it is important that one understands the fundamentals and have the knowledge to create public buildings. Architects should have analytical, creativity, organization, technical, and most importantly, communication skills, to succeed in their jobs. Communication is vital in this career due to the interactions with coworkers, clients, and other professionals. Every person with a job, no matter what occupation, makes an impact on society in some way, shape, or form. Some people leave their legacy by defending people in court, some saving lives in a hospital, and others planning and building works of construction. These planners have a large-scale effect on everybody in society and have an eye for detail, as well as enjoy using mathematics to ensure proper construction. That is why I have chosen architecture to be my career. An architect is a person who designs buildings and supervises their construction. A broader view of an architect is a person who is responsible for inventing or realizing a particular idea or project. Architecture varies from the pillars of the Greek Parthenon, to peoples’ homes. I often find myself marveling over the design of large-scale building projects such as the skyscrapers of New York City. Most of these buildings belong to a myriad of well-known companies such as Chase and Toshiba. That is why I have particularly chosen to become a commercial architect.
The work of an interior designer requires a natural skill to work with people and to decipher what a client desires. "The designer's job is to evaluate, plan, and design the interior areas of residential, commercial, and industrial places." (Careers in Focus: Design.) A few simple jobs consist of helping clients to select fixtures and furniture, supervising the coordination of colors and materials, obtaining estimates and costs within the client?s budget, and overseeing the execution and installation of the project. Some very important details designers must be aware of are the architectural requirements, space planning, and the function or purpose of the environment.
Recent years have been challenging for the whole country and particularly for the construction sector and the architectural profession. Challenging times do however, afford the opportunity for reflection and debate about what is provided and delivered by the architectural profession.
