Reports have been coming through about the Battle of Nanjing. It has said the Japanese troops decided to launch a full-scale invasion on China. Japan dropped off their troops and Manchuria, a large region that Japan had conquered and they set up a base there. The Japanese first took Shanghai, which was one of China’s most important ports on November 1937. Following into the next month the Japanese had reached the outside walls of Nanjing on the 9th of December. Chinese have said that the Japanese army dropped leaflets into the city via aeroplane. These leaflets demanded that the city was to surrender within 24 hours; otherwise they would terrorize the city. Most of the Chinese ignored the propose as many thought the Chinese army would fight the Japanese off. that the Chinese showed a lot of strength and resistance while fighting the Japanese as they did not want to lose Nanjing because they had already just recently lost Shanghai. Although General Percival was reinforced, his forces were unable to halt the Japanese invasion and in the end, they withdrew from the peninsula and took refuge in the island of Singapore to prepare for the final fight with the anticipated Japanese forces. In the end, the British army lost the war because the Japanese forces expertly combined speed, savagery, and surprise without permitting the British forces to re-group and strategize.
