Hawaii and Japan are about 4,000 miles apart. This attack lasted two very short hours. The bombing killed more than 2,300 Americans and sank or beached 12 ships and destroyed 9. Also, 160 aircraft were destroyed and 150 others were damaged. Not only did Japan attack on American soil unexpectedly, they used two waves of air planes which came to Pearl Harbor.
The Americans would slowly take over the island. After a horrifying month on the island, the Americans surrounded the Japanese in the most northerly corner of the island. On March 16th, the island was captured by the Americans. After the bloody fight the Americans lost 6891 men, this was little compared to the Japanese. Out of the 22,000 Japanese soldiers, only 212 were taken prisoner.

April 1945, signaled an end to a lasting Battle and continued a new beginning for the invasion of Japan’s homeland. This battle was the Battle of Okinawa or known as the Typhoon of Steel (Battle of Okinawa). The main cause of this tragic battle was the U.S military being able to use Okinawa as a base to reach or invade Japan (Wukovits). Therefore, bombs were fired towards Japans homeland. In early June half of a million men, soldiers, marines, sailors and airmen were sent to surround thirty miles of the ocean.
Showing you the facts, will leave no doubt in your mind that he knew of the attack, allowed it, and covered up his knowledge. Young adults entering a U.S. history course will have advanced knowledge, of the Pearl Harbor bombing after reviewing the information presented in this paper. "For the United States, World War II lasted 1,351 days, but the nation's greatest defeat took only 110 minutes. My personal opinion that I will be writing about is an argument against the use of the Atomic Bomb. December 7, 1941 was the day Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor was a American naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii. Concerned over Japan’s actions, the US, Netherlands and Great Britain froze Japanese assets in their countries cutting off 90% of raw materials. By December, 194l the Japanese Army had a force of 2,400,000 trained ground troops and an air fleet of 7,500 planes.
For months, many of Japan’s cities had suffered a never-ending attack of weapons raining down on them by American military forces. In March of 1945, the city of Tokyo was attacked and 16 square miles of the city was destroyed (Weber). As a result, over 100,000 people were killed and a million were left homeless with nowhere to go, nothing to eat and nothing left of their possessions. Several months later “came the greatest air raid of the Pacific War,” (Weber) when two more attacks were carried out on what was left of the capital city of Tokyo. In these attacks, a total of over 9,500 tons of ammunition and explosives, creating winds with hurricane force strength, completely annihilated 56 square miles of the capital city (Weber).

On April 6, 1945 at about 8:15 AM, before air raid alarms could go off, little boy exploded. The temperature was estimated to reach over 1,000,000 degrees Celsius. This bomb initially killed about a hundred thousand people, then injured about the same amount, and that does not include how many it killed after the blast from exposure to the radiation. Two days after the first bomb was dropped the U.S.S.R declared war on Japan.
