There were many battles between the British and the colonists. Lexington and concord, and the battle of Bunker Hill and that's only two. Lexington and concord was the first war engagements held between the British and the people. Two hundred forty people died in Lexington and concord. Next was the battle at Bunker Hill. Bunker Hill was the deadliest battle throughout the revolutionary war. One thousand people perished In this engagement.
The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the very first battles of the Revolutionary War. The battle of Lexington was a brief fight that marked the first war-like conflict. It took place on the morning of April 19, 1775, when about 70 colonial minutemen, commanded by Captain John Parker, collided with about 800 British soldiers marching their way to Concord, Massachusetts, to steal some equipment from the colonial militia. The British soldiers were under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith (Lexington, Battle of).
In the summer of 1944, General George S. Patton and his 3rd Army successfully broke through heavy German Forces resistance from the Normandy invasion. German forces were in total disarray by the end of August 1944. Patton pleaded with his boss, General Omar Bradley, that if 3rd U.S. Army could be allocated as little as 400,000 gallons of fuel, he could be inside Germany in two days. Time was crucial before the inevitable reaction by the Germans to shore up their defense, preventing Patton from advancing. General Bradley refused Patton's request for more fuel; Unfortunately, General Patton advanced to Germany. Morale ran high throughout Patton’s Army, and there was no sign of heavy resistance before the German border. Consequently, by early September, the 3rd U.S Army had ground to a virtual halt along the flooded Moselle River. In places, Patton's tanks and vehicles ran out of fuel on the battlefield and their swift momentum outran their supply lines (Fugate, 1999). Lack of logistics allowed the German forces to take advantage of Patton’s Army and initiate one of the largest tank battles of World War II, the Battle of Arracourt.
The Second Battle of Bull Run took place in Prince William County Virginia near Manassas August 28th through August 30th in 1862. As the name of the battle suggest, it was the second time the Confederate and Union soldiers had fought at Bull Run. The first battle was in July of 1861 and the Confederate troops defeated the Federal Union Army. The Second Battle of Bull Run was led by the Union’s Major General John Pope and the Confederate Army was led by General Robert E. Lee.
In 1775, Benedict Arnold had taken his first victory-Fort Ticonderoga. The Battle of the fort occured on May 10, 1775. Arnold and four-hundred soldiers stood opposite of the fort on Lake Champlain and waited for the scouting units to return (CIA). When they had returned, they told Benedict that the fort had only housed fourty-nine British soldiers, a megar amount compared to Benedict's. But the scouts had also noted that there were only two boats that could transport Benedict and his soldiers, therefore only a hundred or so men actually particapted in the capturing of Fort Ticonderoga (History Ticonderoga). Benedict still wanted to suprise the soldiers, so they attacked Ticonderoga's south gate, where only one sentry was stationed. Benedict damanded their surround once they had rose from their sleep. The British troops complied and the fort was won with no casualties and not a single shot fired (CIA). With the fort under the patriots control, the army gained a hundred cannons that the army despreately needed (fourty-three of which were transported and used by General Knox against the British at Boston) and a passage from New York into Canada( History Ticonderoga)which led Benedict to his next military excersion.
The Kokoda Battle occurred from the 21st July 1942 to 16th November in 1942, during World War II. It was a campaign which resulted in an aggressive fight between the Japanese and the Allies. I believe that, based on my research, the Kokoda Battle in World War II was a significant battle for Australians to a great extent. I believe this for three reasons: firstly, the battle was culturally significant to Australia: secondly, the battle was strategically significant to Australia: and thirdly, the battle was of military significance to Australia. I will argue that these reasons are three strong reasons.
The War Hawks demanded a more aggressive policy toward the British after the Battle of Tippecanoe because they argued that by letting fleeing Native Americans seek refuge within Canada’s border, the British were conspiring against the U.S. with the Native Americans as their allies. As a result of the Battle of Tippecanoe, many Native Americans, driven from their camp in Prophetstown with their confidence in Tecumseh and the confederacy destroyed, fled to safety in Canada. Since the British owned Canada at this time, some Americans saw this as a threat from the British because they thought the British were not only supplying the Native Americans with a safe haven, but arming them too. The Battle of Camden marked the point for the patriots in the American Revolution. The armies of Horatio Gates and George Cornwallis. The patriots received heavy casualties which forced them to withdraw. The out come of this battle was a severe defeat to the patriots.
Early on the morning of the last day of the battle July 3, The Union was the first to strike by having a change of events. The Northerners offensively attacked and pushed on the Confederate troops on Culp’s Hill in hopes of regaining territory lost the day before. Union forces pushed back the Confederate threat for around 8 hours and regained their lost land from the Confederate soldiers on day 2 of the battle on Culp’s Hill. Lee believed that on July 2nd; victory was within his grasps, so he decided to send three divisions of his men covered by an artillery attack against the Union center line on Cemetery Ridge. 15,000 troops, led by George Pickett, who would be asking these 15,000 men to accept the task of marching around 3/4 of a mile across an open field to attack entrenched Union positions with good stone walls for cover, who would with heavy artillery support behind them belittle the Confederate troops with barrages of fire. The burning of Washington D. C happened in 1814 when British troops led by General Robert Ross who took over the capitol and ordered his men to burn the Washington D. C and the White House. The British did this because the Americans had burned down York (Toronto), the British did this to embarrass the nation of America. The capitol was left unprotected because the secretary of war said that the British were going to go to Baltimore so know barricades were put in the way or militia being called. The Battle of Thermopylae began in 480 BC and was a product of the Greeks attempt help defend the Ionians from the Persians. This irritated the Persian Emperor, Xerxes, because he thought of Greece as a small kingdom that had no place revolting against the Persian Empire. The Athenians sympathized with the Ionians because the Persians had also tried to invade Greece on multiple occasions. The Athenians provided feeble help to the Ionians and in retaliation the Persians struck at athens (23B). Xerxes was known to be irrational with his temper, and may have thought of his invasion as retaliation for the fact that his father, Darius the Great, was defeated at the Battle of Marathon against the Greeks. His temper was so great that at Hellas Point he had the water whipped because it would not obey him (E49). With only one hundred eighty-seven soldiers and fifteen civilians the Texans were able to hold off the two thousand Mexicans for thirteen days before the Mexican army finally defeated the small Texan force at the Alamo. Even though Texas had lost the Battle of the Alamo, this was just a stepping stone for Texas to be able to gain its independence from Mexico. The Revolutionary War was a war between the Thirteen Colonies and Great Britain from 1775-1783 during the American Revolution. The American colonists fought the British in hope of freedom and separation from Great Britain. “This was the completion stage of the political American Revolution whereas the colonists had denied the rights of the Parliament of Great Britain in governing them without any representation,” ("American Revolutionary War."). The Revolutionary War consisted of many different bloody battles on American soil. The war resulted in an American victory because of many historical reasons. The factors that contributed to an American victory of the Revolutionary War are British debt, distance between America and Great Britain, war tactics, French involvement, and important battles.
