On March 6,1902, Sykes Jones was found dead in the kitchen of Delia Jones’ house. The apparent cause of death was that of a fatal rattlesnake bite. When local authorities arrived, Delia was found on the premises of the murder scene. She was taken in for questioning immediately. She was later charged with involuntary man slaughter. Now, we the Jury; Gavin, Josiah, and Rebecca by unanimous consensus find the accused, Delia Jones not guilty of involuntary manslaughter on grounds of insufficient evidence indicating criminal intent.
Syke Jones fatality was a direct result of a snake bite. It is only logical to recognize that Delia could not have forced the snake to bite Sykes. Rattlesnakes are notorious for being aggressive towards humans. Because of this fact, Delia could not have trained the snake to attack Sykes. Furthermore the snake was placed in the house by Syke Jones himself. It was common knowledge in the town that he was a snake handler. Battered Spouse Syndrome, in simpler terms, refers to when a women has been beaten or abused to the point of an emotional breakdown. Delia Jones endured physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual abuse for many years. If Delia Jones is indeed guilty of any wrong doing, it would be that of retribution to an abusive aggressor. Although we rule not guilty it is understandable that Delia Jones might have wanted Sykes to meet untimely
