At any given time, there may be as many as three Hollywood remakes playing in the cinema. A “remake” in this case is a movie that has been made before, usually in a previous generation. When a film is remade, it is very unusual for the director to keep every aspect of the remake the same as the original. The story is what stays the same and is what makes the film a remake, however it is never exactly the same, but the theme remains the same. There have been more and more remakes of films being made every year. Some remakes, such as Ocean’s Eleven are generally well received and even liked by many. Other remakes such as The Stepford Wives are not so generally appreciated. Many people will watch remade movies because they are familiar with the original and they will spend money to go see the film no matter how many times it has been remade.
Before 2005, did anybody know how Bruce Wayne became Batman? Many people only knew that Bruce Wayne’s parents were murdered when he was only a child, which can be seen in Tim Burton’s Batman. Not many people knew the back-story of Bruce Wayne before Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins was released. This film goes deep into the origins of Batman. While Burton’s adaptation of the comic book shows glimpses of Wayne’s past, Nolan actually finds a way to set-up and explain why a man runs around in a bat suit. He explains every degree of the character from why he chooses to use a bat as his symbol to why he wears a cape to why he uses the weapons he uses. However, his biggest contribution to the entire Batman series is the introduction of Bruce Wayne’s mentor Henri Ducard, also known as Ra’s Al Ghul.

The third installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy starts eight years after The Dark Knight ends, while Batman is still struggling with the defeat he suffered at the hands of the Joker. Early on in The Dark Knight Rises, it is made clear that Bruce Wayne, the hero whom is better known as Batman, has hung up his cape and turned into a recluse. At a social event at the Wayne mansion, Gotham’s mayor, city commissioner, police chief, and other high profile officials are all seen remembering the anniversary of the death of the false hero Harvey Dent. As they pay tribute to Dent, they discuss how much Gotham’s crime problem has improved. They mention Gotham’s crime rates are at a record low, that the Batman is still being hunted for Dent’s murder, and that the Batman and Bruce Wayne have not been spotted in public for months. “The film was shot using a wider than usual lens so that it could be shown in I-MAX cinemas nationwide. Today’s audiences want an experience bigger than reality. We have to go that extra mile to give them that something extra.” Chris Nolan also insisted that the film should have a distinctive style which included making the film feel sincerely dark and sinister. Very rarely were the cameras sat still instead the cameras used very technical tricks e.g.: tracking, zoom. This film was originally promoted using a very unique style. Instead of paying for adverts they decided to promote the film using an alternative route. One of the ways this was accomplished was by de facing thousands of fake dollar notes by putting the jokers smile on top of the original face. A sane yet effective way was when many “Batman” recruits placed Joker cads into hundreds of books in libraries to do with death, this had the desired effect as many people became stirred up as to what this meant. The next alternative was to send out spam emails to the site named www.whysoserious.com. But when did Batman evolve as part of our lives. It was in 1939 when the world was introduced to a new hero. Bob Kane’s simple vigilante, Batman. The comics were e-introduced during the 50’s period. Yet due to Comic Book Censorship the violence was forced to gradually become weaker. The well anticipated Batman retuned in the 1970’s. Yet to intrigue a wider variety of audience he appeared more complicated and violent than previous comics. Today’s Batman comics show Batman as a real man with realistic and varied dilemmas. Due to these changes Batman is now one of the most original and adored comic book heroes. Nolan’s interpretation is a variety of the previous comics. It includes the violence of the First Batman mixed with the complexity and realism of today’s modern comics.
The name alone of the movie is not reason enough for an automatic prerequisite to view the film. The plot, character, the actors and marketing are also responsible for this desire. For example, the first 40 seconds of the December 2007 official trailer of Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” gave its audience all they needed to hear and feel to get them rushing to the theatres, midnight of July 18, 2008. These first seconds contained the prophetic seventeen words, “You’ve changed things…forever. There’s no going back. See to them, you’re just a freak…like me!” which followed by a goose bump producing maniacal laugh, invites the audience to a psychotic journey with the archenemy of Batman. The Joker quote “Why so serious?” noted in the movie trailer and posters were displayed in movie theatres, social media profiles, city streets and fans attires. These words were just a sample of the media frenzy this sequel evoked. Critics and fans alike have acknowledged the cinematic success of this movie with Heath Ledger, the late actor who portrayed the Joker, earning a posthumous Academy Award for his work.
Anyone familiar with Batman, either through comics or Nolan’s trilogy knows that Bruce Wayne only became Batman due to a desire to rid Gotham City of crime after the murder of his parents. In The Dark Knight, however, there is a belief among the Gotham citizens that Batman is not saving the city but rather causing havoc and destruction. This perception clearly weighs on Wayne and is intensified when the malevolent Joker invades Gotham and causes a panic of his own, forcing Wayne to decide if Batman is truly beneficial for the city. Thus, Bruce Wayne/Batman conforms to the formula of the stereotypical Nolan main character in that he is deeply troubled by his past, a past which kindles a transformative obsession. Batman was created after Detective Comics (D.C.) wanted a new super hero to follow-up after Superman. In May of 1933, Bob Kane and Bill Finger created Batman. Bob was born on October 24, 1915 and died November 3, 1998. Bill was born February 8, 1914 and died January 1974. Bill always loved comics as a child and still when he went to high school at DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx New York. He and Bob went to the same high school but never socialized because they were in different classes. Bob meet Bill when Bill was working as a shoe salesman. They worked on many comics together for kids comic books and local newspapers. When they found out that Detective Comics (D.C.) wanted a new super hero they went to work. One day Bob came to Bill with a character, Batman. Bill liked the idea but said it looked too much like Superman. The original illustration had a Robin style mask and red outfit. So Bob took a Webster’s Dictionary and found a picture of a bat. He added bat ears to the mask, giving the full mask a more mysterious look. Christopher Nolan, a director for many incredible films notability Batman and the Prestige, puts extreme emphasis on the gloomy evil parts of the planet earth. There is a common theme and pattern throughout his films. In his films, they usually take place in a city, the parts of the city where crime is eminent. Christopher Nolan in most of his films finds a certain gothic element and makes it a recurring motif throughout the film. Sometimes, people think that a comic book character is just fiction, that it can’t apply to real life. Comics can teach valuable life lessons if they’re just read. Many meanings can come from one book. Truth is stranger than fiction, and in this case, the truth is that Batman can teach us all a life lesson. Best known for his unique and non-linear style and to many people as the best director of the past decade, Christopher Jonathan James Nolan or just simply Christopher Nolan, is one of the most talented and influential film directors and screenwriters of our time. He, like most directors have never studied film and is a self-taught filmmaker. In this essay I am going to write about his early life and how he got into filmmaking. His early career and his rise to fame with Batman movies, his personal life and the influences he have had on the film industry which makes him one of the best directors of all time and my personal favorite.
In the inky blackness, glistening lights shone bright. Making it easy to see the towering buildings of Gotham City. Overlooking the glittering city, stood the dark brooding hero known as Batman. His black, slick cape billowed with the breeze, as his alert eyes watched for trouble. His costume was charcoal gray, with his his yellow and black emblem on the top center of his chest. The emblem was of the creature of the night, the cave dweller, the bat. His cowl, just like his cape was dark black. He wears his dark yellow utility belt, it's contents have saved him more than can be counted. Now his eyes, they're cold and dark. If you were to look at his eyes, they would make you stop dead. He wore all of his attire, not just to hide his identity, but to also strike fear in the hearts of criminals.
The plot of Batman Begins mainly focuses on the origins and psychology behind Batman, and how he copes with the struggles he faces. One major thing that changed the course of the story, was the death of the Thomas and Martha Wayne. It formed an emotion change in the story that effects Bruce Wayne and all of Gotham to arise the struggles and problems that will be faced in the rest of the movie. Another key point in the story was the seven-year disappearance of Bruce Wayne. When in the Chinese prison it would also discipline him, which was something that he hadn’t had much of before. The meeting of Ras Al Ghul and his further training were also key experiences to develop Bruce Wayne into Batman. These were the some of the building blocks in the plot. The plot of The Dark Knight was very different to Batman Begins. The main plot is that Batman has limits and Gotham needed a different hero, whereas, in Batman Begins, Batman was the hero and didn’t think he had any limits.
