The Basque Country is a region located around the west end of the Pyrenees mountain range on the coast of the Bay of Biscay . The Basque Country is comprised of the Autonomous Communities of the Basque Country(Spain), Navarre(Spain), and the Northern Basque Country(France) . The Basque people largely consider themselves to have a separate identity from the rest of Spain; they have their own language, culture, history, territory, industry, and ancestry. From their perspective, they aren't really Spanish and want this recognized. Some people though, went to extremes to express this independent feeling and that is where the conflict started. Most of their attacks included either car bombs or open armed shootouts. They occasionally assaulted banks but many of their attempted heists were unsuccessful. Normally, they targeted metropolitan areas in large cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and Sevilla where they could kill the most people. Of all their horrific attacks the most significant one was in 1973 when they assassinated the Prime Minister of Spain Luis Carrero Blanco with a car bomb. The vast majority of these attacks took place in eastern and central Spain, but many attacks also occurred in Southern France. After the first attack in Southern France, ETA were considered by the United States, Spain, and France among many other European Countries as international terrorists . This made ETA even more infamous and sought after by more countries. After this, security was tightened several metropolitan areas which led to an increase in unsuccessful attacks on ETA’s part, especially in bank robberies which resulted in the death and arrest of several important ETA officials
What is the goal and objective of terrorism? The use of violence to influence a mass population to add hear to a set ideological, political, or criminal reason. Our case study has both of these elements. If we are to be more specific the group is labeled as a Home Grown Violent Extremist Group. This type of group is one of the hardest to detect due to their assimilation into our society. They do not stand out in any way or glaring fashion.
Once named the friendliest city in the world, Puerto Vallarta in my eyes continues to carry that reputation. The people who live there are what make this place so special; it is my most desired place to travel to. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico sits along the coast of Banderas Bay in the Pacific Ocean. Along with having exotic scenery, they are known for having an exceptional variety of food. Since 2014 these groups have been on the rise with a 40% increase of 142,500 reported crimes since the first six months of 2016 (Kern, 2016). Of greater concern are the obvious increases in terror attacks in the EU, specifically in France, Germany and Belgium, host nations for a majority of the migrant populations. In 2015, Paris experienced the Charlie Hebdo attack and ended with the Paris nightclub attack in which more than 150 were killed and 300 injured. In 2016, there have been a significant increase in terror attacks in Europe. The Brussels Airport bombing, the Nice truck attack as well as knife attacks in Germany. Added to this is the threats of future attacks in statements by ISIS leader Abu Bakar al-Baghdadi, as coalition forces fight to retake key strongholds from the Islamic State, but failed to secure the surrounding areas controlled by ISIS allowing an untold number of IS fighters to escape and enter into the EU with the flow of
The FBI defines terrorism as “the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof in furtherance of political or social objectives (fbi.gov).” By this definition, terrorism can be classified as internal or international based on the overall intent of the attack. Terrorism has been around since the beginning of time, but it’s only since 2011 that the world has come to fully understand the meaning of terrorism. The following paragraphs will highlight four different types of terrorist attacks that all took place within the United States spanning over a 40 year time period.
Spain, dating back to 756, used to be a Muslim state and covered the entire land except for the northern most part of it. It was not until 778 when the Spanish March was created in order to merge the Muslim and Christian cultures together. However, with the lack of unity over the years, a bloody rivalry continued as the two sides fought constantly until a victory was won. The Christians received the victory because of its religious enthusiasm and dynamic expansion, which caused their side to continue to live in harmony and peace.

Indo-European culture wiped out all the pre-Indo-European languages spoken in Europe up to that time, with the exception of the Basque language. Serious cultural and political problems arose from the above circumstances. Thee first news of the Basque people comes to us through the ancient geographers, in particular Pliny and Ptolemy.

Catalonia is a recognized autonomous region in the north-western region of Spain, Catalonia is home to the large Spanish city of Barcelona. Catalonia has long wanted to separate from what it sees as an oppressive Spanish government. In October 2017 Catalonia held a binding referendum regarding independence from Spain. The Spanish government deemed the referendum to be illegal and sent out special police forces who shut down polling stations and arrested separatist leaders. Despite the incredibly hostile environment of the referendum, ninety percent of Catalan voters voted to separate from Spain.

September 11, 2001 is a day that many people will never forget. It was the day that the realities of terrorism became apparent to the American public. Several movies were made to honour the heroes of that day and to remember the consequences of terrorism. However, there is more to terrorism that remains unseen in the events of this one day. How do terrorist groups operate? What other activities are they involved in when not violently killing thousands? How does organized crime differ from terrorism? Organized crime groups and terrorist groups often operate using the same methods but they differ in the motives behind their actions.
The word terror dates back to the French Revolution. “A terrorist was, in its original meaning, a Jacobin who ruled France during la Terruer” (Moeller 20). Terrorism has clearly become much broader in the years since its origination. Since the concept was first birthed in France it has been used for separatist, nationalistic, political and religious ends, etc.
I did my research on the country of Lithuania for this former communist paper. The country of Lithuania is located in the north eastern part of Europe. Lithuania borders the countries Poland and Belarus which are to the south of Lithuania and then Latvia to the north. Lithuania became a communist country in October of 1918, the communist party of Lithuania (2). There was several different leaders of this party but the one that was in power the longest throughout the years was Antanas Sniečkus (2). On March 11th 1990 Lithuania declared their independence but it was not till almost a year and a half later that the country’s independence would be recognized by the Soviet Union on September 6th 1991 (1).
Spain’s importance of intimacy allows closer, more personal relationships with colleagues, friends and family members. The importance of masculinity creates a defined gender role for male Spaniards. The celebration of religious holidays in Spain allows the culture to attend to religious duties and also as recreational functions, such as La Tomatina (a giant Spanish food fight). Language is crucial to the Spanish culture because there are numerous regions in Spain that have twists to the language. For example, the biggest regional dialect is Castilian Spanish; however, the Basque, Galician and Catalan all coexist in Spain as
