Basketball is a widely populated sport in today’s society since it was created in the late 1800s by Dr. James Naismith. Many fans enjoy playing basketball but most of them don’t thoroughly understand the process to get in shape to play. Basketball conditioning requires a lot of dedication and is very time consuming. It is a highly competitive and contact sport so being faster and stronger than the other guy can give you more advantages. Many ways to condition are by running, weight training in the gym, maintaining a healthy diet and working on your basketball skills.
Growing up, George was very uncoordinated and was cut from almost every basketball team he tried out for; however, a man named Ray Meyer was the coach of DePaul University and dedicated his training sessions to Mikan (Minsky 15-16). George worked very hard; he even took dance lessons to improve his agility and footwork. He also played one - on - one with shorter but faster players in order to improve his defensive positioning. He also jumped rope, played hours of catch with tennis and medicine balls, and pra... ... middle of paper ... ...arenas, enormous crown support, and plenty of luxuries (Hollander 60-69). Original salaries were microscopic compared to salaries today, especially when compared to other professionals.
Just to let you know i got a 97 on this paper. Hoops Galore Filled with tension as I walked into the run-down gym, I arrived early for my first day of basketball practice. My first line of business was to stretch my muscles so I could get loose and ready to play. As more of my teammates came in, we started to converse about old teams and coaches. Our talk reminded me of my earlier years of life and made me grin.
Also, run the football stadium steps at your school. When I was in college basketball we ran at least 10 laps of stadium steps three times a week (a lap was up and down each aisle all the way around the stadium). Work on your strength - proper weight training will help you take the abuse you are going to take playing basketball. If you play inside, it 's a war of shoving and pushing to get the best possible position for yourself and to take away your opponent 's best possible position. I can 't tell you how many times I 've bruised ribs, thighs, taken elbows in the face, neck, chest, etc.
Even though fans only see the result of the games, the preparation for winning comes at the expense of practicing for two or more hours a day. In addition to those extensive practices, there may be times where more than one game can be played in a week. The objective of the game includes running up and down the court while maintaining control of the basketball. With the measurements of a basketball being 29 ½ in circumference and weighs 20-22 ounces, players try to shoot the ball
While growing up my friends and I played many different sports. The sport we played the most was basketball. 1 Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the United States. As we kept playing the game of basketball we began to take it serious. We practiced on our offense, defense, and playing as a team regularly every day.
With that rate that I had been growing at I was taller and with all the help that I received from my mom I had developed basketball wise much faster than many of the other children my age. Once I became focused on just one sport I started to strive to become like those aforementioned players. Soon though I realized that only a select and lucky few will ever become as great as them and get a chance to play in the NBA. But I never lost my drive to become the best player that I could become. I tried to achieve this by spending all my free hours in the gym working on all aspects of my game.
At 10 years old I promised myself that I was going to do whatever it took for my dream to come true but I didn’t realize how much I would have to sacrifice. A regular day for me would be a 2 hour basketball workout in the morning before school, go to school, team practice after school, than I would either be in the gym by myself or I would be with my trainer. This was my schedule every day in high school for four years. Weekends and holidays off were even tougher. When the weekend came around, and all of my friends were going out and having fun, I was in the gym working on my game.
He had to balance many things such as, Basketball and providing for his family. “Such were Saturday morning of Magic Johnson’s youth, occasions when he was dragged from his quiet slumber, his world of basketball dreams, and thrust into a reality where hard work was the only staple of survival.” (Johnson, p. xix.) As his life went on though he got used to it he got very good at being able to devlope his basketball skills
Scheduling the class times can also be a burden. It took my friend, Chris Carter, who plays baseball for Chapman University, two weeks to plan his class schedule around his job and his training. An athlete cannot have class on Fridays because some games occur on Fridays. Therefore, it makes it even harder to plan. My physical therapist, Jim Hairston, is a teacher at Chapman University and he said that many of his students who play sports have a harder time staying awake because of lack of sleep.
