Branch Rickey started his baseball career as just a mediocre player at best. (Baseball Hall of Fame) He may not have been the best of players, but he definitely made a huge impact on baseball. Branch Rickey was one of the most important and influential people in forming and shaping the way baseball is today. Branch Rickey created the minor league farm club system, which today gives young players the opportunity to develop and enhance the skills they need to be great. Branch Rickey’s most important contribution to baseball was when he signed Jackie Robinson.
His biggest achievement during this season was that he hit safely in sixty-one games in a row which was a big accomplishment for DiMaggio (Kindred 26). Then Joe DiMaggio started playing in the major league which is the best of best. DiMaggio played for the New York Yankees which is last team he plays for in his life. During the peak of his Yankees career, DiMaggio hit safely in fifty-six consecutive games. DiMaggio’s streak went on for a while but it was stopped by two great fielding plays.
That amazing first year of playing baseball he had the opportunity to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He being the amazing ball player he is, hit 12 home runs and it led them to win the world series. He went to the world series 6 times, which is very impressive. Later on that year he was voted Rookie of the year and he stood out to many people and many people started looking up to him. In 1956 Jackie was traded to the New York Giants and they never let him play so Jackie decided to retire.

The game of baseball was created sometime in the 1800’s and has been played ever since. Baseball is a major sport and it is apart of a lot of the cultures in the world. The United States of America and Cuba are two of the top 2 countries that have a lot of players go to the MLB. The game of baseball was first played on sandlot and now is being played in huge stadiums that have large capacities.
This group was the first to lay out foul lines on the baseball diamond and rules like three strikes to a batter. On June 19. 1846 the Knickerbockers played the first known organized baseball game in a 23 to 1 loss to the New York Base Ball Club on Elysian Fields in Hoboken, New Jersey. The game seemed to spread rapidly after this and in a decade there were approximately 50 teams and the New York Mercury identified baseball as the National Pastime. Jackie Robinson was an amazing athlete who overcame adversity to become the first black to play in the league. Born Jack Roosevelt Robinson, Jackie grew up in California. Babe Ruth set many hitting records in his 22 years of baseball. “The Babe” was given many new nicknames over the years. Some for example were: “The Sultan of Swat,” “The Callasses of Clout,” “The Great Bambino,” and “The Babe.” In 22seasons, he led the league 12 times with home run records. In 1921, Ruth had a record setting 60 homers, which no one broke until Hank Aaron in 1974. In 1935, George Herman Ruth hung up his uniform for the last time with leaving professional baseball.
