“Educational System”
High school is a place where you grow up physically and mentally. In high school you begin as freshmen and graduate as a senior. Throughout that span of life a lot happeneds, and you are constantly learning as you grow. But I know many high schools including mine are not perfect and have flaws in their educational system, that can be fixed in order to provide a better environment for learning. Learning is a never ending process that we draw from our personal experiences. Although Americans believe in our educational system, there seems to be many problems that we are not aware of that have a negative effect on our students as a whole.
One problem that the educational system faces is the obstacle between school and life. Schools need to break down the barrier in order to connect, going to school to learn and living your life. The students should be told that learning doesn’t stop after the bell rings or it is time to go it is happening all the time. In “School Is Bad For Children”, John Holt states, “’You come to school to learn’, we tell him, as if the child hadn’t been learning before, as if living were out there and learning were in here, and there is no connection between the two” (34). I think schools sometimes play a role of being separate from life because they enforce the rule of ‘you come to school to learn’ and that is it. Children come to school curious to learn with other people, particularly other children, but when the school teaches them to be indifferent they lose interaction with the world. Holt explains, “You might say that school is a long lesson in how to turn yourself off, which may be one of the reasons why so many young people, seek the awareness of the world and responsiveness to it they had when they were little, think they can only find it in drugs” (35). Making the student disconnect from the real world, meaning life, allows the students to believe that drugs are ok, which is bad. School and living is a connecting subject because you are living your life while attending school, which can affect the way you are learning. Problems and other situation that are happening in your life can make you lose focus, which affects the way you learn. Letting school and learning connect will break the barrier and create a better environment for students to function.
Elements that make for the best literary short story are character, meaning, tone and tension. These four literary elements make your story have a plot. These elements also contribute to your story’s purpose and ambition. The short stories we have read this semester integrate these elements, making successful and literary filled works.
Imperialism brought in more money. And the big money maker at that time was Africa, England especially had taken quite a few colonies there. Joseph Chamberlain when addressing the public, stated that- “Uganda is a most fertile country. It contains every variety of climate; in a large portion of it European colonization is perfectly feasible;…there is hardly anything which is of value or use to us in our commerce which cannot be grown there- (Overfielld 7)”. When powerful nations such as England and France began colonizing in Africa and other places they took natural resources such as rubber, ivory, spices, diamonds, and gold, and sold them on the market. Rubber was used to make a multitude of products from tires for the new and improving automobile, insulation for wires, and more. Rubber was the secret to being successful. In Britain, Indian goods were beginning to take flight because they were ‘exotic’ and ‘new’. Teas, spices, cloths, and foods from India were popular throughout England and Europe due its colonization. The nations profited from the native’s labor by planting cash crops like cotton, coffee, and Tabaco. All of these points proved to the citizens of Europe that Imperialism was a good move in the chess game of life, European nations were the kings, and their colonies mere pawns in

Modern literary fiction in English has been dominated by two forms: the novel and the short story. The two have many elements in common. Perhaps we will be able to define the short story more meaningfully---for it has traits more essential than just a particular length---if first, for comparison, we consider some related varieties of fiction: the fable and the tale. Ancient forms whose origins date back to the time of word-of-mouth storytelling, the fable and the tale are relatively simple in structure; in them we can plainly see elements also found in the short story (and in novel).
Characterization is an essential component in a short story. Characterization is based on two things , indirect or direct characterization. Indirect Characterization shows the audience what the personality of the character is , and Direct tells the audience what the personality of the character is. Authors make characters be presented by means of description, through their actions, speech, thoughts and interactions with other characters. Authors frequently apply characterization to their stories to develop a theme or moral to the stories. Practically every novel that was made in the history of literature has a theme. This means any kind of short story like The Whistle by Anne Estevis and Marigold by Eugenia Collier has characterization.
I’m not going to lie, high school is tough but, in the end you realize that, it leaves you with a great experience and great memories. High School has its perks and disadvantages. In High School you tend to limit yourself. There are strict rules you have to follow and a principle you have to listen to. In High School you have a total of eight classes. It’s a schedule that you follow every day from 8:00am-3:30pm. In High School everybody is separated into their own groups. You try so hard to find the one that fits you the best or, you just create one yourself. It’s a place surrounded by people that care more about what people
Short stories can be judged in many different ways, but what makes a good story is all the elements of short stories corresponding with the central idea, an interesting and thought provoking story, and the presence of a character that is either relatable or interesting. The elements must link together to help the reader make connections through the story, and in turn help understand the overall idea. The story itself must be engaging or the reader will not feel enticed enough to analyze the story, let alone read it. Finally the character(s) in the story must appeal to the reader either with an interesting personality, or must be easy to associate with, so that the reader will want to see what happens to the character next.
Throughout my experience in the public school system, I have heard the line, “What do I need to know this for anyway?” about 1,057 times. It is not uncommon to hear students complain about the worth of their education. Regardless, there seems to be a unanimous agreement that the youth needs education to succeed in life. What is education anyway and what does schooling accomplish? In his book, “A Time to Learn” George Wood provides a definition of education as “making wise citizens and good neighbors who can think deeply and intelligently about issues of self and society, take care for and respect others, take care of their family needs, and contribute to the welfare of others” (Glickman 48). Is school necessary for developing this type of educated citizen? If not, how is it we measure success and how is school important in attaining that?
The first notable positive effect of the empire is industrialization. The British having been ahead in industrial evolution helped spread technology to new places around the world. Particularly, the British Empire was responsible for the development of early industries in their colonies (Balasubramanyam & Wei, 79). They built industries in the colonies such as sugar factories, cotton factories and tobacco industries. Certainly, this was a new development in these colonies that later led to the colonies mechanizing their cottage industri...
The education system has been a controversial issue among educators. Requirements of school do not let student choose what they want to study for their future. It’s a big issue to force student study specific curriculums, which don’t help them improve, and what they like to create something. Educators choose a general system for education to all students which based on general knowledge. Intelligent or genius students have to be in that system of education, which doesn’t let them improve their creativity. Educators attempt to change that system to make it better, but their changing was not that great to be an example for the world. Also, did that change qualify education system to compete other systems or not? In some examples and reasons have been made me agree with some of points from Gatto’s and Edmunson’s and disagree them.
Speaking from personal experience, for the most my part high school did a poor job in preparing me to be successful in college. The habits of a good student are developed at an early stage, which is why it is critically important for kids to receive proper education as early as possible. Obtaining a college degree is something that most parents wish for their children but it can sometimes be an obstacle for someone that did not receive a proper education from a young age. I grew up in South Central and I must admit that for the most part my education was exceptional from first to seventh grade due to me attending magnets schools. But in eighth grade I attended a LAUSD middle school

For Descartes, these are mind and body, and for Plato they are body and soul. Aristotle, in contrast, believes in a singular being where both body and soul are connected. For myself, a Christian who believes in the existence of a life after death, Aristotle 's theory creates an obvious negation. While I could agree with the levels of the soul argument, I cannot agree with the body and soul being one and the same for the simple reason that I do not believe that when the body dies, everything dies. I believe something is left over. What that something is, where it goes and what its purpose is, I may not know for certain, but to believe otherwise would not create a better life for me. Believing the soul lives on beyond the body creates an inner desire to seek morality and goodness, and it is in that endeavor that one creates a “better” life. Similarly, it is intuition that leads me to reject Descartes ' argument because my best judgment would tell me not to believe that everything I know, all that I sense, is a figment of my mind. I cannot know if such a thing is true or false, but far too many questions are raised by such an explanation. For myself, neither Aristotle nor Descartes provide an adequate understanding into the nature of the
School plays an important role in our lives. Many people will spend more than fifteen years at school in order to get the qualifications that are required to work in a specific field. Those years are broken down into several levels, some of them being more enjoyable than others. Two very important levels that people go through are high school and college. Even though some think that these levels are almost the same, there are significant differences between them. The cost of high school is not the same as the cost of college. Also, some differences apply from an academic point of view. Typically, the social environment also differs from high school to college, which can be related to the question of freedom versus responsibility.
High school is a very important time because it is when students begin to plan their life. I have started to think about my options and where they will take me in life. I am striving to have the life I have always dreamed about. I want to be able to look back on my life and believe it was successful. I plan on being a psychiatrist and living in Florida by the time I am thirty. I know that there is a lot of work needed to achieve my goals, but I believe with careful planning I can do whatever I would like.
