“We can no longer tolerate losing one more innocent child or putting one more firefighter at risk in a fire that could have been prevented at the cost of pennies by making a couple simple changes to the construction of a cigarette ” (Ed Markey). There are many people and even children who are victims that suffer from diseases and die from them. A cigarette can cause a lot of damage which causes the nation to pay a tremendous amount of money to repair all the destruction. All this can be prevented if cigarette smoking is banned. A lot of people don’t realize how harmful cigarette smoking is to all the American citizens. Cigarette smoking should be banned due to the reason it reduces health risk diseases, decrease death rates and lowers healthcare insurance costs.
Cigarette smoking should be banned because it reduces health risk diseases among people. Many people have inhale harmful, toxic smoke from cigarettes which causes them to get dangerous illnesses. These diseases affect the environment because many victims are exposed to this which is extremely menacing to the public and put ourselves in danger. Many diseases are caused from cigarette smoking which consists of cancer, heart and, lung diseases such as emphysema, bronchitis, and chronic airway obstruction. Not only does cigarette smoking cause diseases among people but secondhand smoke also affects humans by causing them asthma attacks, infant death syndrome, both respiratory and ear infections (“Tobacco Use”). Many people get affected from cigarette smoking both the smoker and nonsmoker. By banning cigarette smoking it decreases diseases among people that affect them and it will create a better environment too. If something harms everyone it should be banned completely to hel...

Every cigarette that a person smokes reduces their life span by eleven minutes. Banning the sale of tobacco products would prevent many deaths. Not only would it prevent death of the ones that use tobacco products but also for the ones that are exposed to second hand smoke. People who are addicted to tobacco products spend a lot of money on their habit. The use of tobacco products and being exposed to second hand smoke will later lead to many health problems and possibly death. The sale of tobacco products should be banned because people are wasting their money by buying them, it causes many health problems that could lead to death, and it not only affects the one using it but it also affects the people around them.
The government should pass legislation for the permanent ban of cigarette manufacturing, and sales due to the various health problems caused by smoking. Smoking cigarettes not only causes major health problems but it also causes cosmetic problems. Lung cancer is one of the most vicious cancers around and it is caused by long term smoking. Smoking causes yellowing of the teeth and skin, it also causes premature wrinkles and speeds up the growth of facial hair in women. Smoking has also been related to amputation of limbs in people who smoke. Smoking also contributes to the slow healing process in people with diabetes.

... “Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. It causes serious illness among an estimated 8.6 million persons, it costs $167 billion in annual health-related losses, and it kills approximately 438 000 people each year. (n1, n2) Worldwide, smoking kills nearly 5 million people annually. If current trends continue, this number will double by 2030, and smoking will kill more than 1 billion people during this century” (Frieden and DE). Therefore, banning smoking in public places can reduce at least some of these problems and would enable people to live in a healthier way.
Results of several researches from studies have proven that concentrations of tobacco smoke in public places possess the risk to individuals, children, and the environment. Even cigarette butts are equally hazardous for the environment and many creatures, especially in the sea. Cigarette filters are the single most picked up thing in international beaches cleaning every year [5]. Smoking ban can benefit in several ways – from saving of lives, the prevention of disability, to a dramatic decline in health care costs – majority of which are carried by nonsmokers who otherwise are impelled to pay exaggerated health insurance premiums and higher taxes. The recently laid ban on smoking in public places is a smart move. Support of smokers for smoking ban in public places is truly much-needed to make it successful. Smoking is extremely harmful to the health of nonsmokers and to nature; smokers should be self-discipline, socially responsible, and avoid smoking in restricted public outdoor areas even if no official eye is catching them.
Smoking cigarettes is a detrimental practice not only to the smoker, but also to everyone around the smoker. According to an article from the American Lung Association, “Health Effects” (n.d.), “Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S., causing over 438,000 deaths per year”. The umbrella term for tobacco use includes the use of cigarettes, cigars, e-cigs and chewing tobacco. While tobacco causes adverse health consequences, it also has been a unifying factor for change in public health. While the tobacco industries targets specific populations, public health specifically targets smokers, possible smokers, and the public to influence cessation, policies and education.
This year alone cigarettes will kill over 420,000 Americans, and many more will suffer from cancers, and circulatory and respiratory system diseases. These horrible illnesses were known to come from cigarettes for years. Recently the Food and Drug Administration declared nicotine, the main chemical in cigarettes, addictive. This explains why smokers continue to use cigarettes even though smokers are aware of the constantly warned about health dangers in cigarettes. Some researchers have also found out that smoking by pregnant women causes the deaths of over 5,000 babies and 115,000 miscarriages. The only way to get rid of the suffering and loss of life by cigarettes is to ban them. . For years cigarettes have been known to cause cancer, emphysema, and other horrible illnesses. The deaths of over 420,000 of Americans this year will be do to cigarettes. With all the other causes of deaths, alcohol, illegal drugs, AIDS, suicide, transportation accidents, fires, and guns, cigarettes still count for more deaths than those do combined. We can’t stand and watch people die because they smoke cigarettes. Thousands of smokers try to rid themselves of cigarettes but can't because of additive nicotine. Nicotine was recently declared addictive by the Food and Drug Administration, which explains why many smokers continue to smoke despite the health warnings on cigarette smoking. Nicotine makes it almost impossible for cigarette smokers to quit smoking because of its addictive nature, and with the cigarette manufacturers putting just enough nicotine in the so they cant be outlawed. The benefits of outlawing cigarettes greatly outnumber the disadvantages, for example, many scientists believe a link between smoking and a shortened life span exists between the two, a ban on cigarettes could increase life spans. Many studies suggest that billions of dollars now spent on smoking related. Smoking related illnesses could be reduced by outlawing cigarettes, families could save money by not purchasing cigarettes, and accidental fires costing millions of dollars caused by cigarettes would stop. Although a complete ban on cigarettes currently remains almost impossible, several organizations recently helped create a bill that could control cigarettes much in the same way the government now controls drugs. One such organization, the Food and Drug Administration, headed by David Kesslar drafted a major part, which would require manufacturers to disclose the 700 chemical additives in cigarettes, reduce the level of harmful chemicals, require cigarette companies to warn of the addictive nicotine, restrict tobacco advertising and promotion, and control the level of nicotine cigarettes contain.

One of the largest and most problematic health issues in our society is smoking. Smoking is currently the leading cause of death in our country, due to its harmful and addicting contents, such as nicotine and tobacco. Although millions die from it each year, smoking is the single most preventable cause of death as well. Without smoking, a tremendous amount of money and lives will be saved. I think that our country should ban smoking and the production of cigarettes in order to maintain a healthier nation, help save the environment, and prevent the almost 1000 deaths that they cause in fires each year.
Every year, there are over 400,000 smoking-related deaths in the United States. A large percentage of these are due to lung cancer, whose leading cause is smoking. However, not all deaths are smokers themselves. Anyone in the vicinity can fall victim to second hand smoke. These people, through no action of their own, can have their lives threatened.
The prevention of underage tobacco use is crucial to slowing tobacco use in adults. “It is said that over 88% of adult smokers began smoking before the age of 18” U.S. Dept of Health & Human Services, 2012). If preventative measures are taken to slow and even stop the use of tobacco in the youth, it can be inferred that the percentage of adult smokers will decrease. The following section will outline the issue of youthful tobacco use, relate tobacco use to public health and finally outline the plan of action that will later be expanded upon. It is proper that any preventative steps meant for the national population must first be proven to work in the smaller state populations. With this in mind, the preventative actions that will be later recommended will aim to fix the problem on a state level before moving any such solutions to a national level. However, in terms of describing and detailing the issue at hand, it is more proper to view statistics and current realities on a national scale and later come to focus on the state’s background facts. That being said, there are far too many underage tobacco users. “According to the Surgeon General’s 2012 report on the matter of youth smoking, 1 in 4 high school seniors is a current smoker while 1 in 5 adults is a current smoker” (U.S. Dept of Health & Human Services, 2012). This statistic is both intriguing and

There are lots of harmful things in the world such as alcohol, drugs and cigarettes. Cigarettes are smoked and liked being smoked everywhere besides it is poisonous. Although smoking is harmful for people's life. Some people believe that smoking should not be banned. However, in my view, smoking should be banned since it damages people on account of three important reasons. They are health, social and budget problems.
Smoking is a simple process of inhaling and exhaling the fumes of burning tobacco, but it has deadly consequences. According to the American Cancer Society, smoking is the most preventable cause of death in America today (Encarta, 2002). Until the 1940?s, smoking was considered harmless. It was at this time that epidemiologists noticed a dramatic increase in the cases of lung cancer. A study was then conducted between smokers and nonsmokers to determine if cigarettes were the cause of this increase. This study, conducted by the American Cancer Society, found increased mortality among smokers. Yet it was not until 1964 that the Surgeon General put out a report acknowledging the danger of cigarettes. The first action to curb smoking was the mandate of a warning on cigarette packages by the Federal Trade Commission (Encarta, 2002). In 1971, all cigarette advertising was banned from radio and television, and cities and states passed laws requiring nonsmoking sections in public places and workplaces (Encarta, 2002). Now in some cities smoking is being completely banned from public places and workplaces and various people are striving for more of these laws against smoking.
