Kaplan University has an extensive array of academic majors to choose from; deciding on what to study was a hard decision. My first few terms were spent in classes meant for those who wish to pursue a career in psychology. Luckily, I was able to figure out early on that psychology was not for me. I then changed my area of study to Healthcare Administration. Reading through the Course Catalog, I learned a lot about what to expect as far as an education to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree.

There are positions available that may only require an Associate’s Degree, however most positions that the Healthcare Administrations career umbrellas prefer or require a Bachelor’s Degree or higher. To graduate from Kaplan, students must complete all of the required courses, and earn the minimum cumulative GPA within the time frame allotted (Bachelors of Science in Health Care Administration, 2017). The Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration seems to be a quite intensive program, designed to prepare one for a career in various Healthcare Administrator-type roles. The most emphasized role of the outlined education is that of administration and management. The goal is to gain knowledge about the managerial needs of an office, as well as laws and regulations, economics, problem solving techniques, leadership skills, communication (both written and verbal), and human resources to name a few (Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration, 2017). The School of Health Sciences’ mission statement describes its goal as wanting to prepare students to evolve into contributing members within the community and health care career of their choosing (2017). There is not licensing or certification required to be a Healthcare Administrator, however nursing homes and other facility management careers do require certification in order to work as such (Certifications for Medical & Health Care Administration …show more content…

After taking O*net’s survey, I have found that I possess many of these skills. One of my highest ranking ‘interests’ are social interests, meaning that I enjoy teaching, giving advice, and being of service to people (2017). Following closely behind is ‘investigative’ interest, stating that I enjoy fact-finding and problem solving (2017). One interest that falls slightly behind on the charts is my ‘enterprising’ interest; my decision making skills could be a little stronger to make me a more efficient
