PRESENT SITUATION
Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center’s (BRCC) is a non-profit organization that “strives to eradicate sexual assault and abuse by promoting individual and community empowerment through education, training, and therapeutic healing.” The Lexington office serves as the headquarters for the organization. BRCC owns their current location and does not have any mortgage on the property. BRCC serves a 17 county area with a population of over 700,000 people. Currently the Lexington office is located in downtown Lexington in a historic house that has been renovated into office space. The location serves several purposes. Part of the facility is dedicated to the workers in the form of office space, storage, and a reception area. The other part of the facility is dedicated to the crisis center's visitors. There is a formal meeting room used for counseling as well as an informal meeting room where group meetings and education classes are held. BRCC’s staff continues to grow as does the number of people BRCC serves each year. Several problems have been identified by staff members at BRCC regarding their current location. The largest problem is that the house is simply too small to accommodate the growing needs of BRCC. The historic house is roughly 5000 square feet. Offices have become cramped, and hallways are being used as storage areas. There is no reception area and visitors have a hard time finding which office they are supposed to go to while at BRCC. The entrance to the building is the front door, which is kept locked at all times. Handicapped visitors must use the rear entrance to the building because it is the only handicap accessible entrance to the building. The level of service BRCC provides has becom...

Conservation popular? Yes, thanks to Franklin Roosevelt, the CCC and TVA. These two groups had similar goals on very different scales. Comparing the impact of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is like comparing the Federal Government to a State Government. Even as early as his acceptance speech for the Presidential nomination, Franklin Roosevelt (FDR) stated “Let us use common sense and business sense. Just as one example, we know that a very hopeful and immediate means of relief, both for the unemployed and for agriculture, will come from a wide plan of the converting of many millions of acres of marginal and unused land into timberland through reforestation. There are tens of millions of acres east of the Mississippi River alone in abandoned farms, in cut-over land, now growing up in worthless brush. Why, every European Nation has a definite land policy, and has had one for generations. We have none. Having none, we face a future of soil erosion and timber famine. It is clear that economic foresight and immediate employment march hand in hand in the call for the reforestation of these vast areas. ” Roosevelt’s acceptance speech for the Presidential Nomination. During the 100 days of law, which FDR based on the writing of John Maynard Keynes, plans were drawn up for creating government agencies to help put America back to work. Roosevelt came into office on March 4, 1933 and Senate Bill S. 598 was passed by Congress on March 31, 1933 creating the CCC. Executive Order 6101 dated April 5, 1933, authorized the program, and appointed Robert Fechner of Tennessee as director. The first CCC camps, called camp Roosevelt, opened up on April 17, 1933 (Golay). These camps were mostly made up of young white men between the ages of 15-30 years old, but the program did allow both African Americans
Women’s issues are a huge concern to me as I transition into the adult world, especially when sexual assaults are associated with the college culture. From the streets of America to a child bride in Africa, women are suffering from abuse, harassment, and mistreatment. The feminist movement has enhanced life for women, but, in modern society, there are many areas that still need improvement. If we want to resolve issues over the treatment of women, we must tackle and overcome negative views of women, take preventive measures to ensure the safety of women, and bring attention to these injustices.
What many need to be vigilant of is that not just campus students are in jeopardy when it comes to ravish and sexual assault, but additionally people with disabilities , children and elders, the homeless, prison inmates and immigrants that do not have licit documentation and that many times are put in positions of sexual coercion.
There has been a significant improvement of the LBACS from when it first began to today. LBACS first began in 1889 to provide humane treatment and public safety to animals. The city leaders back then established the LBACS in response animal concerns. In 2001, the city of Long Beach and the spcaLA collaborated and built an animal shelter together that is over 6 acres of land total. Since then, the animal shelter is going successful and has been taking care of around 11,500 animals a

The posters had hung in two residence halls for six weeks, with one control hall. Vital factors to this study included a dependent variable of how readily a participant would help another in a hazardous situation, and the fact that the control variables between the three halls included sexual assault education, rape-myth belief, age, or gender.
Throughout the United States, women who are victims of domestic violence seek refuge in battered women’s shelters. Here is where they can leave their abusive situation and find safety. Here is where a woman can begin a fresh start with her children. Though these shelters make a difference in these women and children’s lives, there are still problems that a temporary home cannot fix. These women and children need more intervention. Building New Beginnings is a new, innovative program that reaches out to both women and their children living in these shelters. Its goal is to prevent the residual effects of domestic violence from negatively impacting their lives.

According to a statement addressing the sexual victimization of college women The Crime and Victimization in America states that, “ One out of four women will be sexually assaulted on a college campus.” This disturbing fact has not minimized throughout the years, instead it is continuing to worsen throughout college campuses. Sexual assault is not an act to be taken lightly. Society must stop pinpointing the individuals who commit these crimes one by one, but rather look at the problem as a whole and begin to understand the main cause of sexual assault and possible methods to reduce these acts of sexual coercion.
About one in four women are victims of sexual assault in college, but there are ways to prevent this problem. The consequences of sexual assault are harmful and long-lasting and affect not only the victims but also their families and communities. Solutions to this problem _______. But, as Richard Edwards, chancellor of Rutgers-New Brunswick college said, “Regardless of the number, it’s a major problem, affecting our students and people all across the country and it has to be taken seriously” (5). If people work together, the steps can be taken to stop sexual assault in colleges.
Women’s shelters first began many years ago and have improved over time. The first shelter in the nation for abused women and their children, Women’s Advocates, was founded in 1974, in St. Paul,...

A growing concern in today’s society is rape on college campuses. This is a grotesque action that is happening way to often on college campuses. I’ve decided to research and write about this topic due to the fact that soon I will have nieces and nephew’s going off to college. The rise in sexual assault accusation and cases have risen in the media in the past year, it seems as if more and more we are finding out about assaults that are being reported on college campuses. Even some that are reported to campus police and nothing is done about it. Therefore we have to not only figure out how to reduce these things from happening but what we must do when they have happened.
