Awarding Six Medals to the Three Released POWS
The military has lost its mind by awarding six medals to the three released P.O.W.s. I do not mean to rag on the three troops -- although one did write a "Thank You" note to his prison guards for his swell Motel 6 treatment, but more to the point is the damage such giveaway policies do to our military awards programs. Remember what Napoleon said about awards: "Give me enough ribbon and I will conquer the world." So that all of you have a complete list of the awards the three "heroes" got, I will list them for you:
Purple Heart
Army Commendation Medal
P.O.W. Medal
Armed Forces Medal
United Nations Medal
NATO Medal
The Purple Heart is awarded for wounds suffered while in armed combat with an opposing force, for wounds received while in combat "operations" in a combat zone or for wounds received from terrorist acts while in the military. It is also awarded to the next of kin when someone is KIA or dies as the result of wounds received. How can the Pentagon give out Purple Hearts for injuries received that are no worse than those received in a H.S. football game? Yes, they were soldiers; yes, they were on a mission and yes, they were "treated roughly" -- broken noses, cracked ribs, chipped teeth, cuts and abrasions. Is the Army telling me that the same award for being killed, maimed or shot-up in a firefight is the same award for taking a fist to the chops -- "treated roughly"?
I propose a new award -- the "Black & Blue Device." It would resemble the old W.W.II ruptured duck or just be a plain Red Cross on a white background the International Sign for First Aid. And by the way, it was the President himself who referred to them as detainees and stated that they "weren't in a war zone." Now they're hailed as conquering heroes and given combat awards for sterling performance in a war zone.
Audie Leon Murphy has earned all available U.S. military combat award for valor possible from the United States Army. He was also decorated by Belgium and France for his service. He serviced in the European Theater of Operations along with the Mediterranean. on January 26, 1945 Murphy earned the medal of honor because of what he had did at the Colmar Pocket near Holtzwihr, France when he was only 19 years old. He received it for his defensive actions against German troops- this shows his selfless service and personal courage. While he was wounded he alone stayed in a burning tank destroyer firing at the Germans- their soldiers and tanks- with a fully automatic machine gun. When he was out of ammo he climbed off the tank and led a successful counterattack after he had refused to let his wounds be treated. Another way he showed his personal courage-an army value.
Desmond Doss, the only conscientious objector to win the Medal of Honor during World War II spoke of his time fighting in the Pacific, “You can imagine being pinned down and can't move and receiving orders like that. Uncle Sam has to sacrifice lives for a very important objective and this was a very important objective. So with the help of the Lord we did move forward and we began to [unclear]. We had demolition squad, we had flame throwers, bazookas, [unclear], machine guns, we had the works” (“Private”). Doss describes perfectly how strong the American culture was as it pushed these brave even through the hardest moments and using the most violent methods. Recidivists make things a somewhat difficult on themselves because in some states the three strike rule is usually broken and then they are incarcerated. Restorative justice for juvenile delinquents should be the primary focus as this delinquency is found out at an early age so this juvenile can still be saved. The purpose of imprisoning their parents with them is to encourage better parenting practices. Parents often neglect their children when they become so involved with work, drugs, alcohol and relationships. Better homes will lead to better communities and parents are responsible for making this happen.
Justice has always been the goal of our court system, but it is not always served, especially in cases involving juveniles. The judiciary process has evolved from a system that did not initially consider juveniles, to one where juveniles have their own court proceedings, facilities, and even rules or laws. The juvenile justice system has come a long way, and people have worked very hard in its creation. A juvenile is considered to be an individual, under the age of 18, resembling an adult. However, resembling an adult does not always mean that juveniles will have an adult mindset. Thus, juveniles may need extra attention to help get their lives on track. This paper will analyze various ways involving juveniles and correction facilities and programs.
Throughout the history of English literature, William Shakespeare delved into the mental component of humanity, and the disputed consequences that arise from this human mentality. The most famous revenge tragedy play, Hamlet, is an excellent illustration of Shakespeare’s study of human nature. In Hamlet, the arguable issue of Prince Hamlet’s mental health makes the readers to have two conflicting beliefs: one that shows support for a feigned madness, and the other one that stands up for an unfeigned madness. Madness is defined as an “Extreme anger, excitement, or foolishness.” (“Madness”), and “Ideas or actions that show a lack of good judgment and careful thought.” ("madness"). At the start of the play, Prince Hamlet’s plan is to pretend to be mentally ill, so that he is able to cover up his true intentions to inflict vengeance on his father’s killer. It seems clear from the theater piece that Prince Hamlet has indeed turned to true madness by believing in his own performance in the end.
On November 11, we celebrate a holiday called Veterans Day. This day used to be called Armistice Day. It was called this because, November 11, 1918, was the day that World War I ended. This war was known as the War that End All Wars. Sadly, it was not the last war so they changed the name of this day. When Congress changed the name of this holiday in 1954 they called it Veterans Day. Congress named it Veterans Day because it honors people who have risked their lives for you and me.

These men and women need to be recognized more than they are. Without these men and women our country would be in trouble and danger. Without these men and women where would our world be? It would be in a horrible condition.
Hamlet throughout the play seems insane but in reality it is only an act to achieve his goal of killing his father's murderer. Hamlet chooses to go mad so he has an advantage over his opponent and since he is the Prince of Denmark certain behavior is unacceptable, so by faking madness he is able to get away with inappropriate sayings and actions. We can see this when he talks to Claudius, Polonius, Ophelia and his mother. When Hamlet talks to Horatio in the first act he says how he is going to "feign madness" and that:
As a whole Gilgamesh’s ordinary world can be seen simply as the city of Uruk. This is where we find Gilgamesh at the beginning of the story and get to know him as a character. His ‘call to adventure’ occurs when he decides that Enkidu and himself must enter Humbaba’s forest. The ‘refusal of the call’ can best be seen when Gilgamesh has a dream that frightens him on their journey to Humbaba. However, Enkidu encourages Gilgamesh that the dream means they will defeat the giant and he has nothing to fear. When Gilgamesh enters Humbaba’s forest he has now entered the special world. Enkidu and Gilgamesh are able to defeat the giant and build a door out of one of his cedar trees. When they return to Uruk, Ishtar (the goddess of love) is spurned by Gilgamesh’s rejection of her so she convinces the other gods to send the Bull of Heaven to wreak havoc. After killing the Bull of Heaven the gods decide that Enkidu must die. All of these events could represent the ‘test, allies, and enemies’ phase of the hero’s journey. After Enkidu dies Gilgamesh is now faced with a new fear, which is death and seeks to become immortal. Gilgamesh is very deeply affected and dawns himself with furs in order to honor Enkidu. Madness is a key theme in William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet. Throughout the play Shakespeare displays madness in many different forms. It is also shown in a variety of characters in the play. Some of the main characters that display madness include Hamlet and Ophelia. These characters displays their madness in different ways, and in different amounts. Shakespeare shows Hamlet’s madness as a more debatable form, making audiences question if he really does end up going mad or not. This differs from Ophelia’s madness, as she actually appears to have gone insane. There are also many different interactions with the other characters caused by the character’s madness. This make those other characters do things they may not have otherwise done.Madness
Gilgamesh is an epic of great love, followed by lingering grief that causes a significant change in character. It is the story of a person who is feared and honored, a person who loves and hates, a person who wins and loses and a person who lives life. Gilgamesh's journey is larger than life, yet ends so commonly with death. Through Gilgamesh, the fate of mankind is revealed, and the inevitable factor of change is expressed.

Through these four philosophies, I hope to inspire my students and show them that they can achieve anything. Hopefully, I can spark an interest or a desire that will help them find happiness and success. I cannot wait to see the twinkle in their eyes when they finally grasp a concept or the smiles on their faces when they make a good grade. These little events will keep me inspired from day to day. However, the greatest reward I could ever receive as a teacher would be for a student to come to me years after he or she was in my class and tell me that I made a difference in his or her life. Teaching is a career where you are able to change the world, and that is exactly what I plan to do.
