Automotive Technicians How often are motor vehicles used? Most will be used at least once a day, and with that much driving it begins to take a toll on the vehicle. Whether it has to be taken to a mechanic for a regular oil change or if it is acting up, there will be a mechanic that works on the vehicle. These mechanics have gone through an immense amount of training in order to be able to work on a vehicle. They check over the car to ensure it's running at peak performance. Mechanics use their hands every day in order to make money, it involves great skill and knowledge in order for a technician to understand the car and keep it running, which is why they attend colleges designed specifically for training mechanics. After college most students will begin to lock in the fundamentals of the industry by doing oil changes and other minor work. Slowly new mechanics will begin to move away from a oil change onto more difficult projects such as motor work in which case will pay them more with the faster they can finish it. Mechanics get paid job by job instead of hour by hour, so they usually stay working hard all day long. Becoming a trained Automotive technician can be done in two years of college after high school. During the two years of college a trainee will take courses on each section of the vehicle from the braking system to internal motor work. While taking courses from the college, a job in the industry is required in order to train outside of school in a shop on real customers’ vehicles. The work out in the real-world allows the student to keep a constant flow of learning into their memory because doing jobs multiple times is the greatest way to conceal the learning and remember how to do the same job each time it comes into the shop. Being a Automotive Technician takes knowledge and practice in order to effectively accomplish the job at hand. Every vehicle can have a completely different problem than the last two that you have worked on, Each time a new vehicle comes into the shop with a problem a mechanic must decipher what is causing the problem in the vehicle, where the problem is prevailing, and why the problem is doing so, as well as fix the problem at hand. A technician may use a diagnostic tools in order to look into the vehicle's computer and learn what problem that it has found to be failing. Many present day Vehicle’s can use their computer to figure out what is not working which makes it much easier for the mechanic. The computers can give very detailed descriptions that will point out a very certain problem so that the mechanics may just need to replace or repair the part that is shown. Older vehicles require a high amount of maintenance in order to run effectively and efficiently.
