In order to pursue a career in the automotive field, it’s important to use information to complete tasks that are given when either working on or repairing a motor vehicle. The main job of an auto technician is to inspect and take care of vehicles such as cars and trucks. Being an automotive technician is a job for people who are not afraid of putting themselves at risk or getting a little messy to keep people safe from malfunctioning cars. “Automotive technicians have one of the highest rates of injuries and illnesses of all occupations” (“Automobile Service”). This is because our job is very hazardous and injuries for example like a cut or severe burns to even maybe losing a finger happen a lot more often than you may expect. Do to all the chemicals and the overall filth in the air, illness is pretty common. The general schedule of an automotive technician is important. The average mechanic will work “40 hours a week” (“Automobile Service”) and in this career field, and overtime is very common. Most of the work in this field will be inside the shop but in situations for example there’s not enough room in the shop or if only minor repairs are needed, repairs can be done easily outside. “Service technicians stand for most of the day and they typically work in well ventilated and well-lit repair shops” (“Automotive Service”). This work is mostly hands on work. Using computers and writing information down can be considered some of the only office work that is done in this job. Throughout the world of vocational careers, many people choose the path of a diesel technician. “In The United States, approximately 257,906 members of the population are diesel mechanics.”(EMSI) These people have dedicated their careers to the maintenance and repair of vehicles that possess an engine that burns diesel fuel. “A diesel mechanic is involved in tasks related to maintenance and repair of industry equipment and heavy vehicles. Ever since I was a child, I have had a great interest for the automotive industry. I remember from my childhood days when my father used to go on a scooter to his office and often ride me to school. He had a dream of buying a car for the family. He experienced a lot of struggle in life. He used to travel in a bus to our neighboring town to teach in a small law school during weekends for extra money. He eventually lived his dream by buying a car for us. He taught me, nothing comes easy in life and struggle never stays forever. You have to be worthy and all it takes is faith, passion and hard work. No wonder, my passion for cars comes from my father.
I want you to think back to what might be the greatest invention ever. Dependant upon how well you know your history you could possibly say the wheel, the car, the airplane, the television, the autonomous robot. All of these are great ideas that have different eras in history, but they all have something in common, these creations were all invented by engineers. Do not get the misconception that engineers have been around since the dawn of time but the concept of engineering itself has. Those great revolutionaries all had ideas and solved problems which are still qualities that engineers of this day and age use. Webster defines engineering as, “the work of designing and creating large structures or new products or systems by using scientific methods.” Those people created new products so they would today be considered engineers, but they are slightly different. What makes them different is the field that they would be considered a part of. The broadest one of the oldest forms is mechanical engineering, which is my future profession.
