Truth an Attribute of God
The definition of truth according to Webster’s is conformity to fact or actuality, reality, actuality. Ryrie defines truth as “agreement to that which is represented it includes veracity, faithfulness, and consistency.” To say that God is true is to say that he is consistent with himself. He is all that he should be; he has revealed himself as he really is. His revelations are completely reliable.
For man to understand that truth is knowable to him and life does make sense, he should first understand that all truth is known to God regardless of if it is found in the Bible or other sources. Therefore, it should be called God’s truth because Colossians 2:3b says, “are hid all treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” People think that God has hid his truth from them, making it inaccessible to man so they cannot understand God’s truth. Men do not practice good exegesis when the word ‘hid’ is taken out of context and means, to some people, that God is hiding his truth from them. I think that Paul is trying to say that the truth about Christ is the focal center to which all other truth about everything in creation is connected. That is to say, God is truth. We are totally dependent upon God to know truth because God is the creator of all things. He is our source for knowledge. God revealed both grace and truth to us by incarnating himself. Truth is unchanging and universal; it is not relative but is absolute. (Holmes 8)
The Old Testament term for truth is emeth. This is primarily ethical rather epistemological term. Truth depends on unchanging reality, is personal, cannot change, and remains the same for every time and place in creation. It is absolute. To say these things is to say that God’s knowledge is complete and perfectly true. Truth is the implication that God exist. So one cannot believe in truth and believe that God is non-existence. We need a renewed commitment to the truth as found in the Scriptures and as summarized in theological and doctrinal propositions. (Phillips 26)
When Pilate ask the question ‘what is truth,’ the Lord answered this in the upper room when he said “I am the way the truth and the life”. No one should deny to Christ a personal identification with truth. Before we say we hold Christ and the Bible as central to education, we need to do some serious thinking about God’s Truth.

When a person becomes a parent, their role in life undoubtedly changes. The person must become a teacher, a guide, and a helping hand in the life of the child. Research has shown that there is a distinct connection between how a child is raised and their overall developmental outcome. John Bowlby’s attachment theory emphasizes the importance of the regular and sustained contact between the parent-infant or parent-child relationship (Travis & Waul 2003). Yet, what happens when the only physical contact a child can share with their parent is a hand pressed on the shield of glass that separates the two? What happens when the last memory of their mother or father was from the corner of their own living room as they watched their parent become handcuffed? In 2007, there was an estimate of approximately 1.7 million children of incarcerated parents in the United States (Poehlmann, Dallaire, Loper & Shear 2010). Of those 1.7 million children, 58% of those children are under the age of 10, with the mean age being 8 (Travis & Waul 2003). The children of incarcerated parents are often moved from one family and one school to the next. The child must cope with this issue in home and in school, and may find it especially hard to cope with during school. Schools, however, can be a safe place for these children. This research explored the psychological effects of parent incarceration on the child, the school-based problems that occur as a result, and what educators can do to support children of incarcerated parents.
The Bible is our textbook life, and it also places a high value on doctrine. God wants us to know important things, and gave us the bible to help, and guide us. Unfortunately, many Christians know very little about the Bible and its Christian doctrine. We believers put our interest in other things, and know a lot about things that do not matter. In Romans 6: 1 introduces us to the major doctrines of the Christian faith.
Few assumptions and questions guided my examination of this issue. First, I assumed that the gender of the incarcerated parent had to deal with the level of impact. The absence of the mother must be different from the father. Second, I questioned who would be taking care of the children while the parent's time in prison. Third, I assumed that formerly incarcerated parents would have difficulties taking care of the child after release due to their own mental recovery and other hardships, such as housing, food, employment, etc... Truth, scripture and revelation are three concepts that the Bible has been based on. Truth is defined as the way that things are or should be. It can relate to reality or wisdom. Truth can be communicated in a variety of ways. Literally which is facts and figures and can be shown in math and science. Figuratively which is metaphor and simile and can be shown in humanity. Symbolically in fine arts such as art, drama and music and also narratively such as stories, parables and myths. Truth can be known in the head and the heart because it communicates through reason and intuition. Meanwhile, scripture is defined as being written and taken from script. Scripture is a way for religion to permanently preserve its worth of wisdom, ways of worship and to pass traditions on intact for future generations. Finally, revelation means to reveal. It refers to the initiative of God in communicating with humans. Truth, scripture and revelation are all related because they are all forms of communication that allow us to know God’s message. They allow us to see stories and events of how people lived with God in history and set an example of how we should co-exist with God in our world today.
The challenges of children who grow up with parents whom were incarcerated at some point in their childhood can have a major effect on their life. The incarceration of parents can at times begin to affect the child even at birth. Now with prison nurseries the impregnated mother can keep her baby during her time in jail. With the loss of their parent the child can begin to develop behavioral problems with being obedient, temper tantrums, and the loss of simple social skills. Never learning to live in a society they are deprived of a normal social life. “The enormous increase incarceration led to a parallel, but far less documented, increase in the proportion of children who grew up with a parent incarcerated during their childhood” (Johnson 2007). This means the consequences of the children of the incarcerated parents receive no attention from the media, or academic research. The academic research done in this paper is to strengthen the research already worked by many other people. The impact of the parent’s incarceration on these children can at times be both positive and negative. The incarceration of a parent can be the upshot to the change of child’s everyday life, behavioral problems, and depriving them a normal social life.
Everyone always thinks they hold the truth. The Word of God can be a convincing argument for those who rely on faith to survive. The word of man, however, makes a stronger point, as it demonstrates how foolish and artificial our beliefs can sometimes be, and how they can change and evolve with time.
While discussing revelation and inspiration in his letter to the Corinthians, Paul stated that the world could not know God by this type of wisdom. (I Cor. 1:21) He continued by mentioning some things that man had not known; however, he said, “God has revealed them to us through His Spirit…” (I Cor. 2:9-10)
In the year of 2003 there are many types of religions that are practiced in the United States, which involves a God, or a divine power. My personal preference of religion is Christianity. I believe in Jesus Christ and the all mighty God Jehovah. The characteristics of a God varies from religion to religion, but all leading up to love, an everlasting peaceful life, and salvation; therefore, giving strength to all human beings that believe in them and has faith in them.
“Whether we are reading the Bible for the first time or standing in a field in Israel next to a historian and an archaeologist and a scholar, the Bible meets us where we are. That is what truth does” (Bell, 2005). The Bible is a testament of what has happened and what is happening. The Bible teaches us about our lives today through the meanings of its historical events. It is our interpretation of binding and loosing that broadens our awareness of God, allowing us to differentiate from Him and embody the image of Him.
Motivated by a strong desire for knowledge and truth, you walk into Havergal College with a radiant smile at 8:00 a.m. “Ready to learn!” you exclaim with determination. Seeing the little red ticks in your math homework, you are pretty satisfied with your progress. But suddenly, the little red ticks merge into a huge question mark. Why is your answer true? After all, what is truth? The Oxford English Dictionary tells you that truth is something that conforms with fact or reality (“Truth”). Aha! Your answer is true since it matches the standard answer and is useful in everyday life! Yet, this narrow definition leaves out the most important implications of the word truth as a faith, a covenant, and a virtue.
What is faith? What is truth? Not really an easy question to answer. The line between faith and what is true wears very thin making it nearly impossible to answer those questions. Arthur Miller does some remarkable work in The Crucible to try and show the relationship between both faith and truth. Even though he shows us the relationship between them he also show the distinct difference between the two, but is there really a correct answer? Can we really know what the truth is or who has faith? To realise the truth we must start from the bottom and answer what is faith.
