Henry Peach Robinson and Peter Henry Emerson were two opposites fighting for the same principal; the acknowledgement of photography as an art form. By Robinson’s view, the most valuable aspect of photography was the presence of a distinct and original fantasy outlined by filters of editing enhancements. In addition, he employed a diverse amount of configurations to his illustrations. Techniques such as image misplacement, negative manipulation, and texture tampering were all utilized to exemplify a glorious theme conceived from the imagination.
After conducting the experiments, the hypothesis was found to be incorrect. The data’s common trend was; as the beetle’s mass increased, the amount of weight it could pull decreased. One of the beetles tested had a mass of 1.6 grams and was able to pull only a mass of 18.6 grams. The second beetle had a mass of 1.8 grams and was able to pull 37.3 grams.
I observed a very unique series of photographs by Vik Muniz called Seeing is Believing. Vik Muniz’s images are not simply photography but are pictures of complicated pieces of art he has produced at earlier times. Utilizing an array of unorthodox materials including granulated sugar, chocolate syrup, sewing thread, cotton, wire, and soil Muniz first creates an image, sculpturally manipulates it and then photographs it. Muniz’s pictures include portraits, landscapes, x-rays, and historical images.
Ted Bieler’s Helix of Life (1971) that is located outside the Medical Sciences building at University of Toronto is a sculpture made from a light grey concrete material. Its color appears to be plain which happens to match the exterior of the Medical Sciences building as well. Due to the age of the sculpture, it shows lighter and darker gray dents and streaks near the top and bottom and where it bends. Some of the markings have been made from the material and texture of the sculpture. The material used, which was said previously, is cast concrete. Using concrete without any smooth surface tools creates a rougher and coarse texture which is why it has dents and holes when viewing it up close. As the viewer looks at the sculpture from afar, its

What really struck a chord (ha ha) with me is how terribly interesting his work is. He often designs and organizes the most mundane objects or events in a composition that gives off a very surrealistic vibe.

The scarab beetle has been in many histories, cultures, and religions over thousands of years. They were very prominent in Egyptian culture, a god even had the head of a scarab and scarabs were considered somewhat sacred. They were also minorly in Greek culture, but less prominent. It was sometimes believed to be an assistant of Apollo to help rebirth the sin everyday since it symbolizes life and rebirth. The belief in scarabs has been around for thousands of years.
The life cycle starts as larva or caterpillar. First, the monarch lays the eggs on the milkweed plants. Next, the egg hatch into a caterpillar. The caterpillar then eats the milkweed plants until they are large enough to pupate (Emmel, 1999). Then, the caterpillar attaches a pad of silk to a stem of a milkweed plant so it can hang while it transform into a butterfly. Next, the caterpillar sheds it larval skin to reveal the chrysalis inside (Emmel, 1999). After it shed its skin, the pupa hardens and the chrysalis earns it name by glowing in the sun. As the pupa stage comes to an end, the butterfly can be seen through its pupa shell. The monarch emerges by splitting the pupa along the length of it proboscis (Emmel, 1999). First the legs emerge. Then the fluid fill body pumps its fluid into the veins of the wings while the body shrinks to normal size. Finally, the butterfly hangs from the pupa about two hours while the wings dry (Emmel, 1999).
The hypothesis used was “If we tie a piece of dental floss to our beetle, then it will be able to pull 10 coins”. Through our research, we can now say that our hypothesis is correct. Bess Beetles can pull over 20 times their own weight. If we provided the beetles a better environment that is more like where that live, with less light, less noise, and a better temperature, then I would say that the Bess Beetle can pull erven more than 20 times it own weight.
There are nearly one million species of insects known. Insects are defined by having six legs and a body divided into three segments: head, thorax, and abdomen. Chitin is an organic material that makes up an insects exoskeleton. There are three life cycles of insects, ametabolous or incomplete and paurometabolous or gradual, and homotabolous or complete metamorphosis. These life cycles are important in the aging of insects for aiding in legal investigations, (Houck and Siegel. Entomology).

The artist/illustrator I chose to contact was Mark McKee. He’s an illustrator/designer for World Industries, a skateboard and snowboard company. Some of his work has been very controversial and lawsuits have been filed on several occasions. Specifically for a board with a Winnie the Pooh look-alike and also for a design similar to a L. Ron Hubbard book. But I particularly liked his original work, specifically flame-boy and the smiley devil guy.
