Artificial Intelligence What if I told you that robots could be taking over the world at any moment now? Well, maybe not that soon, but sooner than you think, because Artificial Intelligence is always advancing. When you think of Artificial Intelligence, you probably think of movies like Star Wars or Terminator, but it’s actually very real and we use it every day. Artificial intelligence, or AI for short, is a machine’s ability to think and act like a human. It’s the brain inside a robot, but not the robot itself. Humans, and animals, have what we call natural intelligence, or NI. The main difference between NI and AI is Natural Intelligence’s main goal is to survive and adapt to their environment. The first branch is ANI, or Artificial Narrow Intelligence. Examples of ANI could be any ai system that is below human level intelligence. Google Maps is a good example of ANI because it specializes in one thing only; it can give you directions to places, but can’t do much else. The second branch is called AGI, or Artificial General Intelligence. AGI is about the same as human level intelligence. An example of AGI would be an AI system named Nigel, invented by Kimera, a company focused on improving AGI. Nigel was programmed, not to already know things, but to learn things like humans do. Nigel learns through a constantly growing network of changing directions that can lead to any connected device. The more people that Nigel learns from, Nigel’s process of learning accelerates, taking him a step closer to ASI. Artificial Super Intelligence is the third branch of Artificial Intelligence. ASI is higher than human level intelligence. ASI is yet to be achieved because AGI hasn’t advanced far enough yet. The law states that fundamental measures of information technology follow predictable and exponential trajectories, which basically means that the main measures of computers follow predictable and expanding paths. So, this means that the more AGI learns, the faster it learns. Imagine you are in the year 2000. The internet is starting out through dial-up, people are starting to hear about “Google”, and the first IPhone hasn’t even been released yet.
Now, imagine that you somehow knew how to time travel back thirty years and brought someone from the year 1970 with you back into 2000. You show this person from the 70’s all of the new technological inventions that exist in 2000, like CD’s and Cell Phones and Video Games, and they are obviously amazed, because for someone in the 1970’s life is so completely different that they wouldn’t even think about some of the things existing.
Then, imagine taking someone from 2000 forwards into half that time; Just 15 years into 2015. You would show them all the possibilities of smartphones and smart watches, the availability of 3D printers, and accurate GPS systems. They’d be even more impressed than the person from the 70’s

The concept of intelligent and aware constructs began to emerge in the 1950s and 60s as several scientists in many fields came together to discuss the possibilities of advanced computer research. Artificial intelligence has come a long way since the first robot. In 1950, Alan Turing of Britain publishes, Computer Machinery and Intelligence. This book was proposed to be the birth of artificial intelligence as we know it. The first robot that presents the usage of artificial intelligence was built in 1969. The purpose of this robot was to try out navigation using basic tools such as cameras and bump sensors (Marshall 371). Since then, we have made a million robots way better than this one and we’re going to continue doing so. While the world advances, so is technology. It’s slowly progressing and become better and more reliable. Artificial intelligence is a certain type of technology that is resourceful to our nation. We are using it in the medical field, it’s been helpful to military forces, and it’s helping our world become a better place.
Well, we can observe artificial intelligence in our everyday lives, for example, Alexa which is amazon’s google search based machine, fingerprint / Facial recognition for our cell phones, and even the self-driving cars that were created by Tesla. Computers are good at crunching numbers, running algorithms, recognizing patterns, and searching and matching data. Artificial intelligence is also defined as the stimulation of human intelligence, functioned or processed by machines, especially computer system (Rouse, 2016). These processes involved learning which means the acquisition of information and the rules for using the information, reasoning whereby using the rules to achieve approximate conclusions, and lastly is self-correction. Strong AI, or strong artificial intelligence, is a class in artificial intelligence development that strives to develop computers that can operate on the human level. It is about creating a solution where one may not have existed, and eventually programming a machine to do the same. Within the course of this paper, the elements of AI will be outlined, and the way in which they benefit other fields will be explored. Several examples of these fields will be described, and the way in which they incorporate AI will be discussed. Two or three of these fields will be discussed in much greater depth in the second paper, to be completed before December 5th.
Artificial intelligence involves two basic ideas. First, it involves studying the thought processes of human beings. Second, it deals with representing those processes via machines (like computers, robots, etc.).

When most people think of artificial intelligence they might think of a scene from I, Robot or from 2001: A Space Odyssey. They might think of robots that highly resemble humans start a revolution against humanity and suddenly, because of man’s creation, man is no longer the pinnacle of earth’s hierarchy of creatures. For this reason, it might scare people when I say that we already utilize artificial intelligence in every day society. While it might not be robots fighting to win their freedom to live, or a defense system that decides humanity is the greatest threat to the world, artificial intelligence already plays a big role in how business is conducted today.

It was around the 1940’s – 50’s that a group of people came together to discuss the possibility of creating an artificial brain and its uses. These people were a variety of scientists from different fields such as mathematics, economics, engineering, and etc. This was the birth of the field of artificial intelligence. While artificial intelligence would prove to be technologically revolutionary by introducing new ideas such as quantum computers or robots, said new ideas could result in the downfall of mankind.
