The articles of confederation is a written document that accepted the function of the national government of the united states, after it declared independence from great Britain. The articles of confederation was an agreement among the 13 colonies (original states) that served as its first constitution. The articles formed a wartime confederation of states, with a limited central government. The constitutional convention took place in Philadelphia on may 14, 1787. Delegates from five states called for a constitutional convention, they wanted to discuss the articles of confederation in Annapolis, maryland to analyze the issue(www.history.com). All of the states were invited to send delegates to a new constitutional convention to be help in Philadelphia on May 25,1787. …show more content…

They were at Philadelphia pennsylvania state house for the constitutional convention. There were many people involved in this including George Washington, George Madison, Roger Sherman, William Paterson, James Wilson(constitutional rights foundation). The framers agreed on many things including for the united states to be democratic, they agreed that people had to be able to elect the house of representatives and the senate and president natural rights. Limited government. Popular sovereignty, separation of powers, checks and balances and federalism. The debate over ratification of the constitution was waged in the newspapers, in pamphlets and on the floor conversations(constitution convention). Others who had strong beliefs in the national government provided for in constitution called themselves the federalist; their became the antifederalist. A major compromise in the constitutional convention was between the small states wanted to have each state to have the same number of representatives in congress.
