Driving Over The Speed Limit Speeding has been a serious problem that drivers face on the roads every day. Most of the drivers recognize the risks of driving and they know what could happen by going over the speed limit. In the article “Driving speed and the risk of road crashes” , in this article the authors show the risks of going over the speed “They concluded from this function that a 1% increase in free speed is related to an increase of 7.8% in crash liability.” (Aarts, and Van Schagen 217), it is clear how risky is driving over the speed that one percent can relate to 7.8 % in crash liability. Many people think that driving at a high speed would save time. In fact speed doesn’t save or to be more accurate speeding only saves you a marginal amount of time, if it saves any at all. Drivers are going so fast on highways and then people meet them at the traffic light. So they risk their life and they get the risk of getting ticket, and the conclusion is the same at the end “Perceived time savings by travelling faster is often cited as a motivation for drivers’ speeding behavior. These time savings, however, come at a cost of significant road injuries and fatalities. While it is known that drivers tend to overestimate the time savings” (Ellison and Greaves 239) meaning that drivers usually think that speeding would let them reach faster, which in fact they risk their life for only few minutes saving if it saves any. Usually people miss interpret the relationship between time and speed, most of the drivers understand that speeding would save too much time, but it doesn’t “The same holds true when increasing from a high speed: If drivers know that a speed increase will save them less time than they estimate, they may be inclined to drive even faster; on the other hand, they may choose to avoid the higher risk and not speed at all” (Peer and Gamliel 359) Meaning that if people understand that speeding doesn’t save much time, they will probably choose to drive safely and avoid the risk of making
