Art and Architecture in the Middle Ages and Renaissance

The difference between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance is most visible through art and architecture, demonstrated specifically through an emphasis on religion or classical antiquity, and humanity. During the Middle Ages, art was more religious because it had a very religious influence from the church having such great power in the community. When the Renaissance started, art became more focused on ancient Greece. The Greek influence was because scholars were broadly studying the revival of classical antiquity. The architecture was affected in the same way because in the Middle Ages the style of the buildings was being influenced by religion. The style in the Renaissance was being more influenced by ancient Greece.
The art and architecture was greatly influenced by the Humanist movements between the middle Ages and the Renaissance. In the start of the Renaissance the style of buildings and art was starting to shift. There were still pieces of things that reflected religion, however the artists in the Renaissance were more fascinated by art using the human body (Follett software). When the Renaissance was first starting humanists changed their study from theology and became more interested in the study of philology. Humanists started focusing more on humanism and gaining classical antiquity (class notes). The humanist believed that studying classical antiquity would help their country function better. They thought that ancient Greece was as close to perfect as could be and they wanted to be as much like them as they could.
During the Renaissance scholars were more focused on studying classical antiquity than theology, this had a great influence on their art to change from biblical scenes too more realistic art of people (Foll...
