Flinging paint with an addition to carving marble into sculptures was an enormous part of the Renaissance. Art during the Renaissance Times was influenced by a few of the new techniques that Artists found interesting by making the art more realistic. There were a variety of different techniques used in painting and sculpting which causes art during this time to innovate. A few included balance and proportion, shadowing and the use of perspective. Paint was made mostly of rocks, plants or even dirt grounded up into powder and next you would be directed to add water. Paint brushes were made of animal hairs and a wooden stick. Occasionally they would paint on walls and ceilings. It would proceed up to twelve months to complete an exclusive marble statue. The Early Renaissance was from 1401-1490. By trying to recreate classical artists, focusing on symmetry and creating the perfect form, the artists learned how to create realism.The High Renaissance was from 1490- 1527, a very influential time. The interest in perspective and space gave the art even more realism. Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Raphael flourished during this period as prodigious artists. Sculpture and Painter got great fame in the this time because they were so talented in the subject of realism.

Painting and sculpting were two of the most popular types of art used in the Renaissance Time Period. Many artists were talented in both areas. Some of the most important Painters were Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo Da Vinci. Painters would create masterpieces wherever their heart took them,but they were most commonly found on walls and ceilings. Throughout history, the Roman Catholic Church was very insistent on promoting their ideas. During this time, they used artists and their creativity to promote the Bible and other aspects of their beliefs. Artists were paid, or commissioned by patrons (often the Pope) to create art they wanted. One of the most ambitious patrons was Pope Julius II, who realized the impact visual images had on people’s ideas (Kleiner, 599). Pope Julius II was called the warring Pope, because he often went and involved himself in wars. He also held very humanistic ideas. Because of this, Michelangelo’s relationship to Pope Julius II was very different from his relationship with Pope Leo X, who succeeded Julius II. Julius, because of his adaptions to humanistic thoughts, he let Michelangelo express himself to the fullest, even when forcing him to paint the Sistine Chapel. Leo X, however, was very critical of everything Michelangelo set out upon. This resulted a strained relationship, and eventually abandonment of projects that were supposed to be completed. It is clear that Pope Julius II had a liking for Michelangelo, while the Medici’s looked on him as a type of lowly artist subject to their will.
