We will be debating the affirmative, that baptism is necessary for salvation. In the bible there is proof that we need to be baptized for our salvation. In Acts 2:38 Peter says "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” This clearly states that to receive salvation (the Holy Spirit) you have to be baptized. Baptism is complete immersion under water, not poring or sprinkling but completely covered in water. The Greek root word of the word baptism is bapto. The word bapto means, “To wash, immerse, or plunge completely under water.” Nowhere in the Bible does it say that baptism is not complete immersion. The rest of the definition of the word bapto is “to cleanse and change color.” When we are baptized it is in semblance of our sins being washed away and a new beginning, like a new color. In John 3:23 Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized. It says that there was much water there and people were being baptized in the water. In Acts 8 the story of Philip and the eunuch were Philip was riding and studying with the eunuch. In Colossians 2:11-12 it says ‘In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.’ Again in Romans 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
