Sitting in my two o’clock math class I know I need to pay attention. In today’s economy competing for jobs has become a big struggle. With the number of unemployment rising, people are furthering their education to meet the needs of jobs available. Schools are now requiring some form of the arts to be taken in order to graduate. Although the arts may have many benefits, I believe that funding in the school systems is not needed. “Corporations and foundations report that giving to the arts has not fully recovered from the recession of the late 1980s and early '90s” (Clark ¶14).
When we think about all the modern technology in the world we know that people can receive help for any problems they face in either health or everyday lives. With these resources available why is there a need for other forms of therapy? Others claim that art has been used as a form of therapy, and I have mixed feelings about it. I myself and many others believe that there is no link between the arts and needed academics for the future. On the one hand, I agree that it may be helpful to some people. On the other hand, I still insist that the government has a greater need for spending on various projects. Studies show that “congress has created a nearly $5 trillion national debt” (Clark ¶16) and the extra spending on the arts could not be helping recover that …show more content…

Some may include businesses involved with technology, financing, medicine and law. Careers involving the arts are continuing to fail and will soon be minimal. Supporters argue that “the arts are also being touted for their ability to stimulate local economies and to build a sense of community in areas beset by social problems” (Clark ¶1). The arts should not be masking the economic problems and the problems should in turn be faced with solutions for change.
