Electric Cars are for the Future The electric car idea has been around longer than most people realize. It started with the idea of combining petroleum and electricity into one motor. While the electric car is in high demand at the present time, some individuals presume that these cars are simply a quick solution while we wait for bigger and better ideas to take over the automobile industry. Still, the development of the hybrid-electric cars has had many effects on today's society and will inevitably continue into the future (Hybrid). This explains the way the mileage and the cost of the electric car may be utilized by people who use the vehicle differently. Those individuals, who have it as additional cars, use the car like any of their other cars, particularly if those households have more members of their family. These situations are more prone to be true in the suburbs. Those who have the electric car as their primary car, are more prone to be driving less than 30 miles a day because they are more than likely to be close by to their work and are more conscience of their carbon footprint, the amount of carbon dioxide or other carbon compounds emitted into the atmosphere by the activities of an individual, company, country, etc. …show more content…

The most obvious cost saver would be not getting gas as often or cutting out gas costs altogether. The difference would only be between the all-electric or hybrid versions of these models. Infrastructure, tax breaks, and availability of government subsidies all heavily influence the demand of these cars being incentives to save money (Kihm). It is also a fact that “beyond wiper blades and tires, all-electric vehicles require little maintenance, saving consumers money over the life of the car” (“Top”). They go on to explain that “even the brake pads last longer in electric vehicles because they use regenerative braking to slow down -- a method of converting the energy used to reduce the car’s speed into power that is stored in the car’s battery” (“Top”). The batteries of these cars are also the major cost of building these cars and the cost is only decreasing as time goes on. Currently the average cost of the battery is about $17,000, but by the end of 2015 the hope to get that cost down to $10,000
