Life in the United States has a very wide range of experiences, from religious and cultural beliefs, to ethnic diversity and understanding and everything that goes along with it. The longer I live here, the more I begin to understand that this is truly the land of the free and the home of the brave. Growing up, I 've had my share of good and bad experiences in this country, from racial discrimination, to people literally giving the shirts off their backs to those in need. Thanks to social media, these experiences have grown even larger, allowing me to see more than just what is in front of me. Unfortunately, social media seems to focus only on the negative, making my positive experiences come mainly from what I see with my own eyes.

Which in turn, reflects on us as we grow and develop our opinions of the world around us. As a child, being exposed to all the shallow, uptight, narcissistic mentality that pop culture puts off, my view on how I should be and act was severely altered. When someone that I admire or look up to is behaving a certain way, I 'm most definitely more inclined to act that way as well. The same is applicable to those around me as well, hence the judgmental and harsh environment I was exposed to. Now obviously the blame cannot solely be put on pop culture, we are human beings, and we make our own decisions in life, but the younger we are, the harder it is to distinguish between what is our own and what has been drilled into us. My experiences have shown me that this country is not what it claims to be, we do not understand one another how we should, nor do we open our minds to new ideas and concepts. This year’s election is the most recent proof I have of that fact. When a country can unanimously agree that both candidates are not ideal, but still refuse to consider a third or fourth party for candidacy, there is a real problem. Every day that I talk to someone about politics, the conversation usually consists of how bad the current candidates are, and how we wish there was someone else to vote for. However, there is a light on the horizon, when I talk to the younger generation I see hope and light in this understanding. Issues that we as a country become confrontational about, the younger generation could care less for. One day, these petty things that we hold as political and cultural values will change, and when that day comes, this country will truly once again be the land of the free and the home of the
