Medical Marijuana For over 4,000 years marijuana has been used medically by a vast majority of different cultures around the world. Cannabis was used for medicine in the united states until 1937 when there was a new tax fee led to its discontinued use. Marijuana was placed under schedule one of the controlled substance act, the government believed there was no medical purpose. At the federal level marijuana is illegal. In 1996 the State of California legalized medical marijuana in a limited amount per person. Several other states followed its lead, including the State of Minnesota in 2014. For some patients it seems like a big step for them especially finally feeling relief after years of other treatments failing. Having a card grants you access to medicinal marijuana.
