Marijuana legalization has been in the talks since the 1920’s when it first became illegal in Canada. Ever since then people have been fighting for legalization due to the injustices and the lack of knowledge of the plant. Legalization would also help society as a whole as it would lower crime rates and make it more accessible to those who need to use it medicinally while earning millions in tax dollars. The benefits of legalization substantially outweighs the cons which leads to a brighter and more educated future for those who believed the lies about marijuana that have been portrayed throughout the media. Depending on how the marijuana was grown, which seeds were used to help it grow and the environment that it grows in all go into the final product. Some commonly known strains are Blue Dream, OG Kush, Sour Lemon Haze(The Canabist Staff, 2014) and many more. Marijuana has different names to represent the amount of THC or CBD it has in it. There is also Indica weed and Sativa weed and Hybrid weed. While hybrid is just a mix of the two, you can distinguish the difference between sativa and indica weed just by the looks. Indica is grown very short and indoors while looking very bushy. Sativa is the opposite, grown tall and outside while having a thin look to it. The two also have different effects on your body. Indica is a very relaxing “high” that you can feel throughout your whole body usually making you tired and sleepy. Sativa on the other hand keeps you wide awake and happy and gets your creative juices flowing. Some examples of indica marijuana are Grape Ape, Granddaddy purple, and northern lights. Some sativa examples are Sour Diesel, Lemon Haze and Jack Herer (Rahn, 2014) . There are many pros and cons when it comes to the legalization of marijuana. With the information told throughout this piece anyone should be able to see that legalization will lower crime rate substantially while earning millions in taxes and making an amazing medicine available to everyone who needs it. The great things that marijuana can do such as cure cancer and bringing peace to people’s lives should not be punished with major fines and jail sentences but rather be pardoned for being a contributing member of
