If a person ate two fast food meals a day on average they would be over their total calorie intake allowances. Obesity does not only cause health problems but it can also cause physica... ... middle of paper ... ...estaurant and rather eat that then try something new like healthy food. People cannot control the location or amount of fast food companies and are now realizing that fast food is causing people to become obese(Lusk and Ellison). Obesity is a growing problem and more people are starting to consider themselves as becoming one of those obese Americans. Obesity is associated with many health problems both physical and mental.
“The food is not properly taken care of, which leads all the way back to where the food is originally produced”, according to Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation. Even if it is easy to buy and cheap, the health risks outweigh the five minutes of satisfaction that fast food brings. People should carefully think before they eat fast food. The health risks that come from eating so much fast food can put your life in danger. Obesity can come from fast food being eaten on a regular basis and people typically do eat out on a daily basis.
Fast food is satisfying but the health issue is not so satisfying. “Fast food is far worse than most people are remotely aware” (naturalnews.com).Taste can cause anyone to lose focus on their health. While individuals are constantly enjoying fast food they are putting their body at risk of obesity, diabetes, and even heart disease. “Over a third of the adult population is overweight or obese” (Carolyn Robbins, Is Eating Fast Food Bad for Your Health). Many fast food meals contain a day worth of recommend calories in one meal.
A family can load up in a vehicle and be at the nearest Burger King in approximately thirty minutes compared to waiting an hour or longer for a home cooked meal. While going out is easier than cooking, fast food prices are rising like everything else in this economy. Even though the prices are continually rising, fast food meals are typically enough to fill a person up. Fast food is sustaining food, which may make a person wonder what is actually in it. “Food-borne illnesses caused by bacter... ... middle of paper ... ...ed food, because these will have a negative effect of your health” (Pritchard).
Also they prefer fast food more than home food (Mancino, Todd, Guthrie & Lin; Oct, 2010). Some people like fast food because of fast preparing that take just a moment to be ready to eat and all that at a cheap price. Most people see the preparing food at home is hard and they need time to make a meal, and maybe it is expensive sometimes. Another reason why people choose fast food instead of preparing food at home that each neighborhood has at least two fast food restaurant nearby them (Mancino, et al, October, 2010). For example, children eat at least on hamburger from McDonald’s every day and they consume 12% of harmful calories
Generally speaking, fast food is making people lazier to cook a healthy meal like myself. The article “What’s to Blame for the Surge in Super-Size Americans” by Tori DeAngelis articulates, “More people are eating out than ever, and restaurant food tends to be higher in fat and calories and served in bigger portions than meals made at home”(DeAngelis 292). People eating more fast food than at home will bring risks of obesity; however, that can be prevented if people decide to cook a home cooked meal and limit their portion size. It is important for people to learn to cook a healthy meal at home, and they must avoid getting a quick meal at a fast food restaurant. The food at home is a way better option than eating out, especially since a person can decide what kind of ingredients they want to add and how much of it.
The Effects of Fast Food Fast food is taking over today’s society these days people are buying it more and more and as they keep buying it they are gaining weight like crazy and the food becomes addictive. The food at the fast food restaurants such as McDonalds, Burger King and Taco bell etc. produces artificial foods meaning there are no real ingredients in the food they serve to their customers. Fast food is not healthy for people because people are gaining weight excessively, the food contains unhealthy contents, and all the unhealthy ingredients can cause diabetes or other serious health issues. Fast food causes people to gain weight excessively.
Furthermore, I explained how the environments of people can cause obesity. Being in a city full of fast food places is impossible to drive past everyday without getting urged to buy something to eat. Plus people can not give up on the opportunities fast food grants by their low prices and how people can get more money for their dollar. Fast food never looks disgusting, it is always looking so nice and delicious. Lastly, I stated how the parents and school influences children to eat fast food more.
The question is, why do people continuously eat fast food if they know how bad it is for them? The answer is simple, most people are unaware of what they are eating when they shove a Big Mac into their mouths, or if they are aware, they keep eating it because they cannot afford better. Carey Polis from the Huffington Post talks about this in her article about the yearly price difference of eating healthy versus unhealthy. Polis explains that “unhealthy food is about $1.50 cheaper per day, or about $550 per year, than healthy food,” and adds “while $550 per year is certainly burdensome for many people, that cost figure doesn’t include any long-term healthcare costs as a result of eating a poor diet” (www.huffingtonpost.com). While people are saving themselves $550 a year, the negative health effects McDonalds has on the human body typically leads people to spend massive amounts of money at the hospital later in life.
College and Food It is no surprise that technology has made life easier for people. As people are getting busier and busier, people want to make fast and quick choices. Many college students are constantly cutting corners when it comes to their health. Majority would rather choose a burger from a fast food restaurant than eating home cook meals. Constantly ordering food and wanting it speedy fast can cause bad eating habits.
