Imagine a man or a woman holding a gun to their head. Silently, crying on the inside struggling with whether to pull the trigger or attempt to live. They question who will care when they pass; they feel alone. Loneliness is an intricate part of the depression epidemic that sweeps across the nation. Being alone and not being a part of the culture is practically torture. The background of the ad, with aid from the text, attempts to convey the thought that even the rich have to cope with loneliness. The dark, smoke filled ad uses a sharp contrast between the two colors. There seems an almost darkness surrounding Derek Jeter. We baffle at the happiness that must be felt by famous people, however, it does not always work out. The life of the rich and the famous is usually a life of loneliness and misunderstanding. The ad displays this with the darkness and look that Jeter holds. He has been living a life of fortune since the age of 21, he is now 40. One assumes happiness falls within the very nature his life, however, that comes from the simple mindedness approach that people take. The ad does not necessarily advise that people striving for excellence and fame are misguided, however, the ad is claiming that a life of fame, without a life of love and connection will leave a person lonely. That can be seen throughout many famous people. Jeter, being 40, is not married and does not have children, so, how happy can he be? If, what a common saying is true, “the best day of my life is when my child was born.” He has missed out on something so special that maybe he is regretting the life. Not regretting the money or the game, rather the situations he missed out and the memories that he will never have. Money cannot create life or an atmosphere of connection. In some situations, it can harm it. So, if a person is attempting to be rich and live out the “American Dream”. I would warn them to not lose themselves in acquiring success, because those people forget the real successes of life, like marriage, friendships, and
