Controversial images are smeared all over today’s media outlets: newspapers, magazines, social media, and news outlets. These days if one doesn’t see any controversial images, he must be living in a cave. Just the sight of some controversial image can stop a person right in there tracks and rant about how this world is coming to a horrible end. To be honest almost everything people will not agree with anyways. Before I get carried away, let us get into what controversial means. This isn’t because scholars just want people to stir up debates, scholars just want to give accurate imagery of what actually happened. Images of Holocaust victims are a prime example of controversial images in textbooks alone. Most of the images shown in these textbooks are horrific to look at. Some people find these photos offensive and believe they shouldn’t even be shown. I believe these images must be shown to show the whole truth of one of the most disturbing times in the World. Another controversial images are pictures of Slaves. These images shows how our nation was even at a dark time. These images are the important to keep everyone from repeating the past. This is the basis of freedom of speech. This allows anyone to express their opinions whether it written or photographed. With this principle the use of controversial images should be used in the media. The truth is images may show face of victims of horrific events, but most images portray it as a tragedy, not as a way to identify victims. Yes, the cost of the victim and their families is there, but the image must be shown for the greater cause. Most controversial images are used mainly to get empathy or anger people’s emotions.
