Competitive sports. High energy, intense, parents cheering loudly, buzzer beater, game winning kick, goal, touchdown, no hitter. It might sound intriguing, but everyone must know the dangers and cons of competitive sports, because it might seem fun, but there is the dirty little secrets that many leaders and organizations don’t mention, some can easily brainwash the athletes, no matter what level, youth, high school, collegiate, or pro. Competitive sports can be very dangerous. I will be talking about the chance of injury, the real reason why athletes quit their sport that they play, and schools not caring about the student side of the student athlete.

LSU freshman Ben Simmons and projected number 1 pick in this years NBA Draft was supposed to be one of the finalists for the Wooden Award, which is the award for college basketballs best player. But due to skipping classes and not having a better G.P.A. then he did, he was disqualified. To make matters worse, LSU did not seem to care about the problem until it went nationwide, then after the news spreading nationwide they finally did something, but did very little, only having him start on the bench for the game. Also last college basketball season Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim was hearing complaints about his players struggling with their homework, so he told his assistant to do their homework for them, causing Jim Boeheim to miss the first 9 games in the 2015-2016 college basketball regular season. There is also a different story from Syracuse, and there was an article written about it by Ricky O’Donnell of sbnation.com. A star from Syracuse’s 2011-2012 basketball team and was 20-0 to start the season, sitting at #1 in the country. Fab Melo, the star from that team had to sit out the rest of the season before the NCAA tournament because of poor grades. Syracuse attempted to get one of his grades changed from a class from the year before. In order for him to get a higher grade in the class he had to write a 4-5 page paper about the medical and personal problems he dealt with since
