Argumentative Essay On Cadavers

Since the early 1700’s, people have been exploring and experimenting with human anatomy. Early forms of lithotomy and cystostomy often led to pain and infections as many procedures were performed without anesthesia or sterilization (Source A). After years of failed medical practice, humans realized the potential for new knowledge through the dissection of cadavers. Human dissections regularly disproved what early medical “professionals”, with little education and training, believed about the manner in which the human body works. From the beginning of the use of dissection in science, many have questioned the ethics of using human remains in science. These people believe that they have valid points as to why it should be irrelevant to use cadavers, …show more content…

In order to ensure the security of their vehicles, auto companies have been known to use cadavers as test dummies. Nearly all aspects of a car’s safety have been drawn from cadaver testing (Source F). Non human test subjects such as test dummies and artificial cadavers are used often but can produce inaccurate results and are substantially more expensive. Because the chemical bonds in human bones and tissue cannot be mimicked exactly, non human test subjects do not behave in the same manner that real cadavers do. Many people believe they can overlook inaccurate test results for a cheaper price tag. Contrary to popular belief, synthetic cadavers are not cheaper than real cadavers at all. The company SynDaver creates life size synthetic humans that can be bought by schools and companies for around $40,000, while real cadavers cost under $500, taking in the price of shipment, blood testing, and cremation (Source D, A). With these numbers, a company can use 80 cadavers for the same price as one synthetic cadaver. Because most of the required testing for data such as the force needed to crush bones or the velocity of a fatal collision has already been done, cadavers are becoming more and more irrelevant. The use of cadavers in scientific studies is ethical because it produces test results that have the potential to save many
