During the holiday season, it is difficult for many Americans to avoid the guilt of being much better off and being in a much better situation than the less fortunate. After all, stories of greed along with stories of the homeless often surround the reputation of the commercial aspect of Christmas. However, people are often foolish in these thoughts, as they often only think of helping the needy during the holidays when the needy need help year round. They are especially foolish in their feelings of guilt as well, because the holidays are the times of the year when people are most selfless. After all, Black Friday has the reputation of being a day where people will give up their dignity just to save a few dollars on something that they don’t need. However, the growth of the day of Black Friday has actually projected to stop increasing, and the association of the Black Friday with the holiday season is actually exaggerated. For example, 2014 was the first year when Black Friday store times were not pushed earlier within many years (Source A). Also, data has uncovered that Black Friday is not in fact the day when Americans are most likely to get their shopping done, and the dates that did earn that position turned up closer to Christmas than Black Friday (Source A). This evidence suggests that the popularity and reputation surrounding Black Friday is exaggerated when not just false.
