Have you ever wondered if we are alone on Earth? In billions of galaxies, and billions of planets, how is it possible that humans are the only creature of intelligence? Intelligent life is few and far between even on earth, however, some scientists and theorists think that intelligent lifeforms are somewhere out in the nebula. The sheer, spectacular size of just the Milky Way galaxy can hold hundreds maybe thousands of intelligent alien life form, and in the word of Seth Shostak, “We’ll immediately know something very important. We’ll know that we are neither unique nor special”(Shostak 1). In the 1980’s there were less than five thousand UFO sightings. In 1990 the numbers doubled, making it ten thousand sightings. Sightings rose by thirty thousand in the succeeding ten years. There are an abundance of statistics to show the sighting records. Statistics show that you are more likely to spot a UFO in the United States rather than any other place in the world. There are 2,500 sightings per ten million people (Delzo, 1). That is three hundred times higher than the global median. 17 percent were skeptical that there is other life in some some far away galaxy. The last 28 percent said that they didn’t believe that there was other life out in some other galaxy. This study shows that most people in the world do believe that there is other life in other galaxies. So there is people out there that believe but there is also people don’t believe. A man by the name of Frank Drake came up with an equation that calculated how many advanced and detectable civilizations there should be in the Milky Way. The equation produced rather big numbers but if one were to fail the number would noticeably drop. The existence of of intelligent life means nothing unless they can make there selves be known.
