Stop and “visualize a future in which law-abiding Americans will be at the mercy of drone technology and watching the skies become a way of life” (“Good Drones”). Technology is advancing every day, especially robotic technology; drones are flying robots. Therefore, like any new technological advancement, especially robots, they receive admiration and backlash from American citizens. Drones are being perceived as negative because they violate citizen’s Fourth Amendment, impede a person’s privacy, and create international issues. Drones are “unmanned aircraft systems”, that come in “many shapes, sizes, and designs” (Hartman). Under the Federal Aviation Administration drones have regulations: “drones over 0.55 lbs. have to be registered” (Hartman). Furthermore, there are restrictions on the altitude and airspace that drones can fly in (Hartman). Most importantly, drone pilots should complete a pre-flight inspection prior to flying the drone to ensure safe travel; there are a lot of potential hazards when using drones. …show more content…

To begin, people fear that the use of drones will create a new form of warfare (Singer). Drones do not require soldiers to be on site, so the use of drones provides a no casualties war tactic. Also, people fear that drones will be misused for acts of terrorism or that drones will accidently fall out of the sky and harm someone (Singer). Furthermore, people fear that the use of drones will impede their Fourth Amendment rights and lead to a loss of their overall privacy. Most importantly, safety, shaping policy and regulating drone technologies, have been huge topics of discussion
