From the beginning of human existence, we have often looked to the stars for answers and guidance. As we look to the stars however, the dark void of space has always been a mystery waiting to be solved. As our species evolved, so did the capacity to further try and piece the puzzle together. From Galileo discovering new moons, to the United States sending a human to our own, little by little, we have gained vast information, which helps us gain a new perspective on “space”. As we have looked to the vast reaches of space, we have discovered millions of new stars, moons, planetary bodies, and even black holes. After looking at the website www.debate.org, the polls concluded that the best form of government is democracy. I agree with this premise for a civilization here on Earth, but I do not think democracy would be best suited for this exploration mission. The website listed the reason “it helps realizing ones mistake, and improving upon them,” which makes me think this is not government I need on my ship. Democracy took hundreds of years to get near perfect. It involved many revolutions, battles, disagreements, and it is still in the process of being perfected. In this expedition, I cannot afford any imperfection if there is to be any chance for survival; I cannot afford any disagreements or uprising. According to the site, democracy allows everyone to voice his or her opinion, and it is run by majority rule. Through out our history of government, there has been the issue of majority rule oppressing the minority, but it is an issue addressed in our constitution. However, our constitution applies to the U.S. citizens, so passengers from different countries would try to implement their own constitution, which would not work, stripping democracy to its foundation of minority rule. This being said, I think the correct government would be a monarchy. This monarchy will have a council similar to the UN in charge of assisting the monarch. I will be the first monarch in charge, and will be responsible for my ship, taking advice from my council, after I will train my successor to be fair and implement democratic ideas. In addition, I would use military force to keep my population in check, because I cannot afford any mutiny on my ship. If a crewmember decides not to do their job, he will be sent to a mandatory exile in which the passenger is placed in a simulation room. A country can be run in many different ways; the form of government plays a big hand in determining international affairs and government policies. Ideas change, long ago countries were run by monarchs. Kings and Queens: with absolute power to rule. Now, many countries use democracy as a form of government with three separate branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary Democracy is a form of government by the people; especially: rule of the majority(Webster). This is what the United States is represented as, and this is based on the United States Constitution from which the United states draws all legal powers. In Robert Dahls book How democratic Is the American Constitution? He challenges this idea by trying to appeal to his readers in a way that they may view the United States Constitution in a different light. Dahl does this by pointing out flaws that the Constitution has and, draws on facts based on the other democracies around the world that the United States is compared too. He points out how many democratic ideas and innovations have a occurred since the conception of the American Constitution yet it has only adopted some of those idea.

One of the contemporary definitions of democracy today is as follows: “Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives; Rule by the majority” (“Democracy” Def.1,4). Democracy, as a form of government, was a radical idea when it manifested; many governments in the early history of the world were totalitarian or tyrannical in nature, due to overarching beliefs that the strong ruled over the weak.
When considering this topic, one might ask themselves why explore space? We explore space to compare other planets with the earth and to study the sun, to explore the universe while finding if intelligent life exists, for satellites to improve communications, weather forecasting, navigation, resource monitoring, and “to create a focal point for a new intellectual renaissance” (Ruzic).
The American democracy is one of the most peaceful kinds of government in the world although it is a long way from utopia. The democracy in which we live has many strengths and weaknesses. Neither strengths or weaknesses out weigh one another, but it is necessary to have both due to the varying definitions. A democracy is a government that is run by the people. The politicians that we elect to run our government are human and they are susceptible to mistakes based on their own strengths and weaknesses. The strengths and weaknesses they possess are reflected into our government but at least “we the people” elect them and they are not chosen for us.

However, the solutions to the problems faced by mankind's desire to reach beyond the horizon, through the night sky, and into the stars are solutions that will help in all areas of life on Earth.
Since the beginning of time, mankind has sought after learning about and exploring the universe. This yearning drove us to achieve such great things as the journey to the moon and the discovery of water on Mars. Nowadays, several people argue as to whether or not space exploration is worth the effort. I believe that it is humanity’s instinctual nature to pursue a better understanding of ourselves, and our universe. Further understanding of our universe will lead to the discovery of new technologies and ways to secure humanity’s survivability.
Some may think exploring outer space is simply a human’s curiosity. This is true but on the contrary, people explore to learn about things they may have never known and touch on the essence of the creation of the universe. Another reason for exploring this uncharted area is the technological advancements people have made and immense amount of innovation they have achieved in this field (Wood). Lastly, scientists study the other planets just in case one day humans need to relocate after overwhelming damage has been done to Earth. Suffice to say, it is a vital part of today’s day and age to research outer space (Rothery).

Humans have been fascinated with space since the beginning of our time. Just like children and rough neighborhoods, we have tackled obstacle over obstacle to make it home again. In the end, we have a better knowledge and strength than before. The future of space exploration can assist us in answering the everlasting question of how the universe came to be. The more we explore the infinite galaxies, the more we can scientifically discover and create new technologies as science advances. As we continue to discover, we can create new fields and occupations for aspiring young students like myself.

This is true because the heart of democracy is reliant, dependent, and thrives on the populaces desires; which gives them the ability for maintaining the right to choose, over time it adjusts and fixes itself to engulf the prominent troubling issues, and people have the right of electing the person they deem appropriate and can denounce them once they no longer appease them. Whether it be simply constructing a fire, or solving the riddles that still puzzle us to this day. Many of the questions we still have are pertaining to space. Are we alone? How did we get here? Where are we going? Many answers can come from exploring space. Getting a “few lumps of moon rock” can answer so many questions we asked ourselves for millennia. Can we truly belong in a place we do not know about? Space exploration will better us now and in the future for several reasons.
