In this essay I will argue that corruption is bad because of its effects and not because it is wrong in itself due to it not always having bad motives. I will begin by giving a notional definition of what corruption is, then move on to the different incentives to the use of corruption. Finally ending the essay that even though corruption may be helpful in some ways, solutions and regulations should be set in place to reduce the levels exploitation entirely. According to Bussell, corruption is historically defined as ‘the abuse of public office for private benefit’ (2015). Whereas, another definition states that corruption is ‘behavior of public officials which deviates from accepted norms in order to serve private ends (Huntington, 1968). Nevertheless, in many societies it is seen as a positive concept that reinforces an intrinsic concept that favors family or faction over a bureaucratic organization. In China, even though corruption is deeply embedded and far-reaching, it acts as a stimulant to circumnavigate the regulations and red-tape to ensure the achievement of institutions in investing and ultimately gaining economic growth. These same situations are applicable in countries such as Indonesia and Thailand where they experienced a large economic growth for about 20 years. In contrast, most of Africa, Middle East, and Latin America, view corruption as a vile concept that only looks at personal gain or getting access to resources that amplify their personal legitimacy (Rose-Ackerman,1996) .
