In relation to the forever on going argument about the value of college, many people tend to argue for or against college and forget about the overall purpose of college itself. College holds importance to me because I believe it’s a giant stepping stone that can get you across the river into your future adult life with comfort. While people may be able to get around without a college education, it 's most likely that they end up stumbling across that river, and maybe even drowning without the stability of the college stepping stone. This college stepping stone leads to a comfortable life and an easier way to reach a desired point in life. Despite the high price tag of going to college, the hopeful outcome is that it will provide future benefits like job flexibility and personal growth in order to outweigh the price. Surveys from Pew Research Center show that, “...respondents who graduated from a four-year college, 74% say their college education was very useful in helping them grow intellectually; 69% say it was very useful in helping them grow and mature as a person; and 55% say it was very useful in helping them prepare for a job or career” (Is College Worth It, 2011). More than half of these students said college paid off for them, despite the cost of college, they still said it was beneficial. While it is possible to grow by life experiences, college provides the life and academic experiences which is more substantial in every day and professional life. It’s crucial to be able to grow as a person and mature because even if someone were to have the highest degree, not having that intellectual growth won 't get them far, like skipping stones but falling short and missing
