For many young adults, going back home is the last option but should it actually be the first choice. This “ going back to the nest” idea is becoming more popular in today’s society, but is still looked down upon from by many individuals. There are many explanations on why people would go back home, but some people may not see it the same way and think it’s just a cop out of having responsibilities. People shouldn’t bash this “losers” that have to resort to going back home; instead, people should embrace this concept, just as Eve Tushnet did in her essay, “ You Can Go Home.” The number of people who have made the tough decision of moving back home has been the same since 1968 to 2007, which is about 32 percent of every individual between …show more content…

Being that the Great Depression was a very challenging time in American history and it was actually normal for young adults to live at at home with their parents. Even newly weds would have to resort to living with the man’s parents. There are many differences between the Great Depression era and modern times, in why it was acceptable to live at home with mom and dad. A huge reason was because it was seen as a normal practice that everyone does and not seen as a shameful option for younger people to do to make life easier for them. One other reason was because most young adults in Depression era were married compared to the young adults now who see marriage as a later goal in life. The idea of living at home and not getting married in till an older age is what really caused this negative outlook on people moving back home with their parents. If living at home postpones the person from getting married, then what good is it to live at home longer than what society deems normal.
