Aquatic Ecosystems Did you know that aquatic ecosystems cover more than 70 percent of earth’s surface and that three quarters of the earth is covered with oceans, lakes, ponds, rivers, or streams? An aquatic ecosystem is a system composed of living organisms and non-living elements interacting in a watery environment; they also use each other and the water they reside in or near for nutrients and shelter. An ecosystem is an entity formed by the interactions between living organisms and the physical environment. Aquatic ecosystems can be divided into freshwater, estuarine, and marine systems. All of these ecosystems are vulnerable to climate change, pollution, and even over fishing, which can be a serious harm to biodiversity. The organisms that live in these ecosystems contribute to the healthiness of the ecosystems. The main three ecosystems I will focus on will be: freshwater, ocean, estuarine and wetlands.

Ecological health is the most important thing to keep all ecosystems and our earth clean and nice. All these ecosystems are effected by human activities. These ecosystems need us to stop polluting and damaging all the habitats for organisms. Being that aquatic ecosystems has covered such a big part of the earth means it is pretty important. As I stated in the introduction all of these ecosystems are vulnerable to climate change, pollution, and even overfishing. All of these ecosystems have very different diversities as in the animals or organisms you may find in that ecosystem. Each ecosystem has different ways on keeping up the health of the ecosystem to enhance the living quality and quantity of organisms. All in all I think that aquatic ecosystems plays a huge role in our everyday life and without them humans may have never existed ; we also may have never had water or food from the animals and organisms from these
