The book How To Read Literature Like a Professor explains how to make connections to other pieces of literature and make them easier to comprehend. Thomas C. Foster decided to write the book in a second person perspective because he wanted to make it feel like he was talking to his reader instead of just speaking to an audience. Thomas Foster wrote this book because he wanted people to realize how most stories have a lot of references in them and many stories can be traced back to famous pieces of literature like The Bible or popular fairy tales. He overall wanted everyone who read his book to become a more educated reader and that having read his book, you could make connections and comprehending literature would become easier.
For my choise novel I read Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. The main character Katniss Everdeen, was telling the story in a first person perspective. Catching Fire is the sequel to The Hunger Games. In this three book series all the people in the story are controlled by the capital. The citizens of the capital are divided into twelve districts and every year two people (one male and one female) are chosen to compete in a fight to the death. This competition is called the Hunger games. The winner getting to live in the capital with endless riches and free from the Hunger Games. In book one, Katniss’s name is drawn in the reaping for the 74th games and she is forced to compete in the Hunger Games. Katniss won the games. Every 25 years the capitol hosts a special type of Hunger Games called a quarter quell. each quarter quell has its own unique twist put on the games. ...ic struggle over woman. In the first Hunger Games Peeta and Katniss played each other off as lovers, however Peeta actually has feelings for Katniss. Peeta and Katniss got married because The Capitol forced them to but Katniss does not have any feelings for Peeta. The second connection I made in Chapter 9 was if someone tries to protect their family more than themselves. Katniss was not necessarily protecting her family but protecting Peeta. Katniss went into The Games not trying to win, but trying to keep Peeta Alive and let him win. I think that making connections with literature can allow you to understand the book or story in more depth. I think that I will greatly benefit from reading How To Read Literature Like a Professor and enjoy books more when I make connections to The Bible or Shakespeare or knowing what a meal scene is actually trying to portray.

To reflect on the novels and films, we must look at the principles of axiology and also examine the plot, characters and how they react to each situation; for reflecting on “the girl on fire” we must study the grounds of epistemology with her own identity. The whole story starts off with the day of the reaping when Prim, Katniss’ sister is selected to enter the Hunger Games, a game created by the government at the time to keep the society scared. One boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected by an annual lottery to participate in the Hunger Games, an event in which the participants must fight to the death in an outdoor arena controlled by the Capitol, until only one individual remains.

Not only are the books popular among adolescents, many adults have also found the series captivating as well. With books so focused on violence, there must be an underlying factor that draws readers in and makes them feel so passionately about the characters in these books. In all three books, but particularly in the first, Suzeanne Collins captivates readers by creating such vivid and emotional relationships between the characters. Suspense is created by the anticipation of not knowing what will happen between the characters. A strong bond between sisters, a broken mother-daughter relationship, and a love triangle are some of the main relationships built and focused upon throughout the book that draw readers in.

A quest will always consist of 1) a quester, 2) a place to go, 3) a stated reason to go there, 4) challenges and trials en route, and 5) a real reason to go there. This movie refers to a dystopia world in which there are 12 districts and a capitol who rules with an iron fist, in which the districts must provide a tribute to fight in an annual Hunger Game as a punishment for a past rebellion. Katniss Everdeen is a hunter from the 12th district, which Gale, her friend gives her tips on hunting. One day her sister, Primrose Everdeen, is chosen for the Hunger Games, and in order to save her, she volunteers instead to serve in the Games along with Peeta Mellark. During a TV interview, Peeta confesses her love for Katniss Everdeen, which causes the enragement of the latter; however, she later forgives him as he explains to her that it was only to gain sponsors. During the Hunger Games, she did not receive a lot of supplies except some medicine to cure a wound, but Districts 1 and 2 almost won the Game due to their training, and amount of supplies which Katniss destroys but cannot recover any of them. The Hunger Games was one of the best movies I ever watched because it has a little bit of everything and it captures the real-life survival game that we live on a daily basis.

The importance of this essay is to understand and comprehend our reading and writing skills by brainstorming our ideas and thoughts a lot quicker. In other words, we must always try to read first before we can brainstorm some ideas and to think before we write something. There are many reasons why I chose Stephen King’s essay, Reading to Write, by many ways that reading can help you to comprehend, writing, can help you to evaluate and summarize things after reading a passage, if you read, it can help you to write things better and as you read, it can help you to think and evaluate of what to write about.
In the novel The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins a new country is created. Panem is born in place of North America, were the Hunger Games began. In the Hunger Games, there are 24 tributes. Tributes are people who live in the districts. The tributes in the Hunger Games are all the same. They kill one another and become the Capitols puppets. The tributes become violent, emotionless puppets. Then there is Katniss. Katniss is an excellent hunter and becomes lethal during the games. However, she has not lost her compassion. Katniss does not think of herself as a good person. When in reality she is a good person with a large heart, who puts others before herself.

In a not-too-distant, some 74 years, into the future the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 13 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games; these children are referred to as tributes (Collins, 2008). The Games are meant to be viewed as entertainment, but every citizen knows their purpose, as brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts. The televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eradicate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. The main character throughout the series is a 16-year-old girl from District 12 named Katniss Everdeen.
The main character, Katniss, volunteers as tribute for her district to save her sister from having to be tribute. Upon arriving in the Capitol for the games, she sees just how vast the gap between the Capitol and districts are. To fight against this class struggle, she begins to revolt. At first this comes in the form of small things, like shooting an arrow at a pig feast of Capitol higher-ups and refusing to kill her friend in the games, resulting in the first ever co-victors of the Hunger Games. Katniss’ actions soon lead to full blown rebellion in the districts, starting a revolutionary war between them and the Capitol. At one point Katniss remarks: “My ongoing struggle against the Capitol, which has so often felt like a solitary journey, has not been undertaken alone. I have had thousands upon thousands of people from the districts at my side.” (Catching Fire 90).
