I realized that to really pursue my interest I needed to go to a top university and worked hard in high school to achieve that aim. I was able to do just that and secured admission to BITS Pilani through the one most competitive engineering entrance exam in the country with a 3% selection ratio with an additional requirement of 80% in physics, chemistry & mathematics. While choosing my specialization I went through the structure of the programs offered and realized that the being a more balanced course the M.Sc.(Tech.) in Information Systems would best match my goals and ambitions.
The multi-disciplinary curriculum at BITS Pilani exposed me to diverse courses ranging from computer science & engineering to economics & management to even biology. But it is the computer science & engineering related courses that further developed my latent interest. During my sophomore year, the course Electrical & Electronics Engineering Practical gave me an opportunity to experiment with transistors, capacitors, inductors, resistors etc. Building a FM transmitter capable of transmitting at variable frequencies further piqued my interest in computer engineering. In the course Computer Architecture & Organization, I implemented the LC-3 architecture with all necessary components including registers, APU, datapaths of instructions, memory including instructions pipeline architecture using Verilog. In the course Operating System, I developed the custom command line interpreter using C and implemented several functionalities as changing directories, execution of command etc., I also implemented threading, resource sharing using semaphores and monitors using C.
In my senior year, I interned for 6 months at the Symantec R&D facility at Pune, India. I wo...

...redible enough in academics and research. With its flexibility in academic curriculum and healthy mix of courses offered, it gives the perfect opportunity for students to work on their chosen fields. Also labs like High Performance Computing Laboratory with projects like High Performance, Energy Efficient, and Secure Cluster by Prof. Eun Jung Kim are on same line as my area of interest as storage forms integral part of cluster & distributed systems.
Graduate studies under reputed faculty at a leading graduate school like Texas A&M University would be in perfect alignment with my long term goal of being a researcher in the field of computer science. Given my abilities and drive to succeed, I feel I am an ideal candidate for the graduate research program in computer science at the Texas A&M University and can actively contribute to and initiate cutting edge research.
