And also from all walks of life. What I have noticed is that race, ethnicity, income, and zip code are sometimes just as significant predictors of health status as family medical history, diet, or the medicines one takes. In primary care, recognizing these “social determinants of health” can help us understand why some of our patients might struggle harder to manage their disease than others.My public health will go a very long way to help me grasp the proper concepts and tools needed to work with education in health care systems to bring sustainable solution to the problems.
I know if the health sector is better funded, better equipped and better managed with clear cost effective policies, diseases could be avoided, through proper interventions and planning. I anticipate bringing about much needed change in health care through my work with government affiliated health care systems.

Any job in the medical field is great, because it will always be needed no matter what. Doctors, nurses, techs, etc. are all very important and necessary people, but the people behind the scenes are just as important, medical administrative assistants. Being a medical administrative assistant seems awfully difficult, you have all these responsibilities but at the end of the day you’ll have a sense of satisfaction because you may have possibly really helped a patient or family with a serious and hard situation. There are different types or categories of medical administrative assistants, you have the front office, the back office, the clinic setting, private practices, and the floating position. Duties for
The biomedical model of health has been criticised because it fails to include the psychological and social causes relating to an individual’s medical illness or health, looking only at the biological causes (Giddens and Sutton, 2013). Therefore, sociologists being aware of the impacts of social structure and lifestyle on health have put in various efforts to place the study of ‘the social’ at the core of health and healthcare examination.

I learned to love my profession and indeed, I realized how meaningful nursing is. I am dedicated and want to take all opportunities available for me to become a better professional nurse and to improve healthcare as a whole. Volunteering in the Columbia Student Medical Outreach Program at Columbia University and participating as a sub-member in the Community Outreach and Education Committee gave me more opportunities to interact with patients to strengthen my clinical and communication skills. Also, I spent much time as a leader of my university’s medical volunteer club ‘AGAPE’. It was valuable for me to meet many students from other universities who had different majors in the healthcare field. Moreover, I interacted with foreigners and improved my interpersonal competencies. I managed to see how simple changes can save lives, such as educating people about the disease, which not only saves lives but surely improves the quality of
American’s health-care system is in turmoil. According to Bradley and Taylor (2013), “we spend nearly twice what other industrialized countries spend on health-care” (para.2). See figure 1;
My mom always used to say,” Look at the person as a whole to understand the condition.” Even though it made little sense to me as a child, I learned the concept when I was doing my Internal medicine rotation. The passion of knowing that I could improve a person’s quality of life drew me into pursuing medicine. The multitude of different organ systems that one covers while practicing medicine fascinated me to delve into a field that encompasses them all - Internal Medicine. In addition, I enjoyed the challenges that Internal Medicine would provide me with its diversity. Altogether, Internal Medicine was the amalgam of everything I learned in my medical practice and decided to pursue my residency.
For the CHAP - Cardiovascular Health Awareness Project, I was able to help with initial data-entry into a Microsoft Excel database as well as double-checking data entered. After graduating from Biomedical Science and Health Science, I began working at a medical clinic to increase my knowledge of the healthcare system. I encountered numerous cases where individuals expressed their challenges and difficulties in accessing proper healthcare. For example, homeless patients without a family doctor requiring controlled medications had difficulties seeing a physician due to the nature of the medication. With the restriction around the controlled medication, the patients had to see the same doctor every time for their prescription renewals. If the physician was away, the patients would be forced to wait for their prescription. Secondly, patients requiring prescription changes wait days before obtaining their medications due to bureaucratic reasons, especially if the medication needs to be changed to another covered under the provincial drug plan. Lastly, there were patients on social assistance who require forms to be completed to obtain social support, but were unable to be seen due to not having any
I have had extensive experience in the medical field in the past 7 years. I have shadowed several doctors of varying specialists, from orthopedic surgeon to endocrinologist, and worked in many hospitals, such as the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, NJ. In addition, I am a nationally certified EMT and have worked as an EMT over the past year. Through my experiences in hospitals and medical settings, I have been able to see how healthcare is managed so differently even in the same state. By analyzing the variance of health care across countries I would able to gain a better understanding of healthcare systems and healthcare management. I have also read a wide amount of articles and books on health care systems as part of LIM500 in Fall 2015, LIM501 in Spring 2016, and HCX633
My motivation to pursue this field is the overwhelming need to inform medically underserved communities of the proactive steps they must take
As a future healthcare leader, I will start by collecting data on the health of the community that my organization serves. I will develop a five-step program to contribute to public health efforts within my organization. My five-step program towards public health will involve monitoring, diagnosing and investigating, informing and educating, partnering, and researching. I will monitor the health indicators of my community and be aware of health needs and disparities. I will seek to identify hazards through research and analysis and diagnose root causes. Once root causes are recognized, improvement is possible. It is
