Everyone fears failure. However, there are a plethora of people that do not allow fear to rule their actions and in return, have been very successful. Entrepreneurs, which are people who own a business on their own, risk a plethora because they have complete liability but many times end up making millions in revenue. Apple Inc, Starbucks, McDonalds and Walmart are companies that began with the risk entrepreneurship and are very successful today.
A company that has been innovative around the world is Apple. This company came to be with the help of two entrepreneurs, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Founded in 1971 in Seattle, the company is one of the leading companies specialized in quality coffee. This national coffee phenomenon began as a coffee shop with the cooperation of Jerry Baldwin, Zec Siegl, Gordon Bowker and Alfred Peet. These entrepreneurs only sold whole roasted beans but later opened up more choices for consumers to choose from. With Howard Schultz’s addition to the team, Starbucks was able to reach dramatic success. He went from being director of retail operations and marketing to being the executive chairman. In 1985, Starbucks began doing what is most known for today, which is, brewing coffee and espresso beverages. This concept truly helped Starbucks grow because it saved people the time to have to go home and brew their own coffee. In the same matter, Starbucks is a company that has helped better the economy. In 1991, Starbucks became the first privately owned U.S company to offer a stock option program that includes part-time employees. Not to mention, Starbucks provided a job to 137,000 employees by 2010. The McDonald brothers opened the first family owned restaurant in 1940 at San Bernardo, California. Though the McDonalds restaurant began with a variety of food choices, their focus on quick and good soul food like burgers, fries, and milkshake was emphasized in 1948. As a result of this change, the McDonald’s brothers had made a revenue of $350,000 dollars a year with locations in both Arizona and California by the 1950’s. When a multi-mixer sales man named Ray Kroc sold machines to the McDonalds brothers for their restaurants, he realized McDonald’s potential to expand. For this reason, Kroc purchased the company from the McDonalds brothers in 1961 for 2.7 million dollars. One of McDonald’s biggest accomplishments is opening the first drive thru 1975 in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
