There are a lot of women that work in a apparel factory that’s called the Triangle. On March 25th 1911 in Manhattan there was a massive fire that killed hundreds of people in only eighteen minutes. They are pretty sure the fire was started by a cigarette that was lit and the different paper and fabrics that were in the shop help spread the fire faster. The workers that were on the ninth floor were getting trapped and burning to death. Some of the people on the ninth floor were so desperate to leave they started jumping from the ninth floor to the street and was dying. Joe made it out of the building alive and then he remembered that he had left his pocket watch that meant a lot to him because it had been part of the family. Joe went back into the burning building just to get the pocket watch and never returned from the building. He died. There was a rumor that on the ninth floor the exit doors were locked. The women were trying to get out but they claimed they were locked in. After the fire was put out the firefighters went up into the building and was looking to see if there were any survivors that were left up there and were collecting the bodies of the women that were burned to death. There was a line of thousands of people that had lined up to try and identify their family members bodies. One of the girls recognized her mom because she had braided her mother’s hair that morning before she went to work and it was still braided when she died. All of the dead bodies were identified except for seven of them. The city decided they would bury the seven bodies in Brooklyn on April 5th together.
