The famous Russian playwright Anton Chekhov said, “knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice.” What is the value of the knowledge? why many people, like Anton, appriciate the knowledge so greatly? The society today takes knowledge very seriously. Children do or are strongly recommended to study at school for about 9 hours daily to gain knowledge, and knowledgable people are hired with better condition and command more respect from the society. My belief is that this is because our civilization has always developed with people putting their knowlegde into practice, therefore, the value of knowledge can be greatly diminished without the application in the world. It involves 193 countries out of 196 that it is connecting the most of the countries in the world together, and providing a place for fair discussion and detterent againt the war and conflict to occur. However, not many people are able to apply the knowledge of history in the world unless they are politicans, so is the value of knowledge diminished for common people whose work are not related to the world and its issues? The knowledge of history can indirectly help common people to improve the quality of life. In my home country, Japan, the knowledge of history is required when getting a job. The job applicants have to take the job examination, and it often includes lots of questions about history although the job itself may not related to history. Therefore, the knowledge of history provides Japanese people better chance to obtain a high-paid job, leading to the better quality of life. If he had not verify his hypotheis claiming that any two bodies in the universe attract each other with a force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely propoerional to the square of the distance between them, and shared his findings to the world, a lots of inventions in our daily life such as an elevetor and airplane would not exist that his knowledge has heavily contributed to the advance in human civilization.
