Stop and think about this for a second. What if someone was torturing and killing other innocent human beings by the millions using methods of starving, shooting, gassing, burning, and hanging. You might say, “Oh, that could never happen.'; Well it has. During World War II, millions of innocent human beings were killed, all because of one man who had an obsession for power and supremacy. This man that I speak of is an anti-Semitist, meaning someone who is prejudiced against Jews or another race. This man along with his many other followers thought Jews were an alien race. Throughout this paper you will find out who this man is, what he did, why he did it. Also, you will learn about what life was like for the Jews during this time. After reading this I hope that you will have a better idea of what anti-Semitism is and how one man’s obsession turned to millions of lost lives.
The man I mentioned in the first paragraph obviously had a name. His name was Adolf Hitler. Let me give you some background information on him. He was born on April 20, 1889 in Braunau am Inn, Austria. His father was a minor customs official and his mother was a peasant girl. He never completed high school and was a poor student. He twice applied to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, but was not accepted for lack of talent. He read large amounts of books which helped him develop an anti-Jewish and anti-democratic attitude. Hitler fought in World War I for the Bavarian army. Although a courageous soldier he was never promoted above private first class because he was lacking in leadership qualities. In September 1919 he joined the nationalist German Workers’ Party. In April of 1920 he went to work full time for the newly renamed National Socialist German Workers’ (Nazi) Party. In 1921 he was elected party chairman and given dictorial powers. By this time he had developed extreme racist qualities and an extreme hate for Jews. In 1923 he tried to seize Bavaria but had no success. There was an increase in the number of Nazi’s between the years of 1929 and 1930. Hitler was then appointed Chancellor of Germany. Hitler started a campaign to destroy world Jewry. He met with high ranking officials and created the final solution to the Jewish problem, and in 1933 the first of many German concentration camps was built.
History of the Holocaust, written by Yehuda Bauer in the early 1980s, is a comprehensive history of the Holocaust and the surrounding details about Nazism, Anti-Semitism, and the Jewish lifestyle before the Holocaust. Mr. Bauer starts of the book with a general overview of “Who are the Jews?” and how their history led to the Jewish Holocaust. The emergence of the Jews is a controversial, confusing, and conflicting set of theories. Bauer then goes on to discuss how the rise of anti-Semitism was devastating for the Jews.
Willy never accomplished his dream of becoming a first-rate salesmen. Even his funeral which he had hoped would be filled with people coming from far and wide was a handful away from being empty. The book is titled Death of a Salesman which is literal as well as a parallel to his career that died. Not only is the outcome the same in his career as in his life, but so is the method. Willy Loman killed himself, but he also killed his career. Throughout the story it is mentioned that Willy was a skilled builder, “He was so wonderful with his hands”(138) not only was he talented, but “he was a happy man with a batch of cement”(138). His family make it clear that Willy would have been more suited for a job in construction than sales. When discussing a religion that is as vast and ancient as Judaism, it is hard to pick just one aspect that is especially interesting. After searching through many articles about the religion, there was one thing that constantly caught my attention; the hatred of Jews by so many people. Christians, Muslims, and other people of different beliefs have shown there hate for the Jewish religion over thousands of years.

Many reasons exist as to why the foster system is failing and a major one is the number of children in the program. Although the number of children in the foster care system has decreased about 11% since 2002, “…experts worry that the trend might now go into reverse” (Protecting 47). “In 2008 there were 463,000 children in the foster care system” (47), due to the actions of parents such as abuse, neglect and the use of drugs and/or alcohol can cause a child to be placed in foster care. These actions cause the number of children in the system to increase. In order for this number to decrease dramatically programs must be put in place to help find enough, stable homes for foster children. As a result of the economy, many states have “considered cutting down on child-welfare services, such as benefits for foster parents and the number of social workers they employ” (47). Anti-semitism has been around for a long time. So long that it dates back to the third century, and it’s still a problem today. Anti-semitism has started wars, created genocides and aided in countless unadulterated murders. One example of anti semitism happened just last month in Kansas City, KS, when a massacre happened at a Jewish community center.
Discrimination and prejudice have been in our world for as long as humans have themselves. Discrimination has caused problems in societies all throughout history. But despite all of the terrible things that have happened because of prejudice and discrimination, it continues to live on in our world today.
There are many social justice issues to deal with, a huge list. They range from racism, to poverty issues to heterosexism. All these examples have been covered and discussed profusely recently, in the media and on the internet. People are very focused on these issues, and there is nothing wrong with that, those issues deserve to be brought to light, but those issues do not involve me or affect me. The social justice issue that does affect me is not discussed at all and seems to be the taboo topic of the year. It is anti-Semitism, something that still occurs in the United States to this day, and something that I am very invested in and interested in changing.
It can be noted in Dickens Hard Times that he explores the ways in which the idea of parental responsibility can form and shape the choices of individuals. The notion of how circumstances and education can influence and change a person's morality and emotional maturity. These ideas are explored both indirectly and directly through Gradgrind and his children, Louisa and Tom and through Sissy. Dickens also emphasises how individuals can also notice the lack of parental responsibility and change.
Did you know over 510,000 American children are in foster care, 21 percent of children just in Massachusetts were in foster care during the year 2014. They’re removed from their families and homes when they are in a time of crisis. If nothing changes by the year 2020: 22,500 children will die of abuse or neglect before the age of five. More than 10.5 million children will spend a duration in the foster care organization, and 75,000 former youth who’ve grown out of foster care will experience homelessness.
The proverb in the prompt makes the point that someone who has been bitten by a snake, will from that time on then fear anything resembling a snake, like a piece of string. This suggests that our perception is flawed because a person should have no reason to fear a piece of string as it poses no real threat to them, but nevertheless, when they see a piece of string out of the corner of their eye they feel the same fear as if they were to see a snake. Obviously, disabilities in the senses such as deafness or blindness negatively affect a person’s quest for knowledge because they are missing out on an entire sense experience, but even a typical able-bodied person is hindered by their own perceptions in extreme cases and everyday life. One example of this is how our perceptions affect our ability to recall memories. Eyesight is a sense that is very reliant on perception to make sense of the world around us, but that reliance can get us in trouble sometimes when our perceptions become faulty. A very debatable topic in the world of law enforcement and judiciary punishment is the use of eyewitness accounts as reliable sources to conclude the guilt or innocence of a suspect. There is numerous definitions worldwide and in Canada for the term “disability”, and debates about who is considered a person with a disability. Winkler gives an elaborate definition of this term which will be used to define disability throughout this paper. Above and beyond the general definition, Winkler states “Persons with disabilities include those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others” (2009, p. 329). This book includes stark criticisms of many aspects of Victorian society such as child labor and class structure. He criticizes class structure by portraying other characters’ cruelty and corruption as an impediment from Copperfield’s discovery from himself. Dickens depicts an evil character as someone who is a result of their experiences such as James Steerforth or Uriah Heep or as someone who is inherently evil such as Mr. Murdstone. Also, Dickens is able to create a contrast between the evil of these characters and the warmth and goodness characterizing the people on Copperfield’s side. By comparing their characters, Dickens further emphasizes the difference between the two sides and “provides a forum for Dickens's views of the inherent nature of evil as well as a critique of a society that enables and shapes this darker side of humanity”(Miline, 102). Dickens sheds light on the negative parts of the Victorian class sytem and how it created the people Copperfield met in his life. Dickens strengthens his position on class differences in a variety of ways. Although he displays his clear disapproval, Dickens seems “to have mixed feelings about class consciousness as he has David maintain some distance from the Peggottys, but he portrays this family with an honesty and goodness of nature that is lacking in many upper-class characters” (Miline, 94). Despite clear signs of his disapproval, Dickens refuses to entirely condemn class differences because he acknowledges that it will always exist. For example, when Copperfield becomes a gentleman, he stays slightly aloof of the Peggottys due to their class differences and Dickens’ personal experiences during his lifetime as a successful author with taste of the lifestyle of the upper
Adolf Hitler joined a small political party in 1919 and rose to leadership through his emotional and captivating speeches. He encouraged national pride, militarism, and a commitment to the Volk and a racially "pure" Germany. Hitler condemned the Jews, exploiting anti-Semitic feelings that had prevailed in Europe for centuries. He changed the name of the party to the National Socialist German Workers' Party, called for short, the Nazi Party. By the end of 1920, the Nazi Party had about 3,000 members. A year later Hitler became its official leader Führer. From this, we can see his potential of being a leader and his development in his propaganda.
