Anne Frank As A Hero

“Yes there is no doubt that paper is patient and as I don't intend to show this cardboard- covered notebook, bearing the proud name of “diary”, to anyone, unless I find a real friend, boy or girl, probably nobody cares. And now I come to the root of the matter, the reason for my starting a diary: it is that I have no such real friend.” Anne Frank divulges that she wants her diary to be a friend to her unlike her other friends, she feels isolated and alone sometimes, and wants her diary to be someone she can talk to openly and honestly about everything. So she calls her diary “Kitty” and addresses it as her friend. Anne was often emotional and insecure of herself. She felt as though she didn't have any true confidants, which led her to feel lonely and misunderstood. “I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as a great source of comfort and support.”

Born on June 12, 1929, Anne Frank was a German-Jewish teenager who was forced to go into hiding during the Holocaust. She and her family, along with four others, spent 25 months during World War II in an annex of rooms above her father's office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. During the two years in hiding which Anne refers to as "a time when the ideals are being shattered and destroyed, when the worst side of human nature predominates, when every one has come to doubt truth, justice and God (pg.327)." Anne kept a diary that was given to her by her father, Otto Frank, on her birthday. Between June 1942 and August 1944, from Anne's thirteenth birthday until shortly after her fifteenth birthday, Anne recorded her feelings, her emotions, and her thoughts, as well as the events that happened to her. "…[I]deas, dreams, and cherished hopes rise within us only to meet the horrible truth and be shattered…yet in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart (pg. 327)."

A hero is not always a person with a mask and a cape. A hero is someone who goes out of their way to save or help others, no matter what the consequence may be. Someone who risks something, like their life, just for another, even if they don’t know them. For example, Marion Pritchard helped save many Jewish children and adults during the terrifying years of the Holocaust. She lied, cheated, stole, kidnapped, and even killed to save the lives of people she didn’t know. She put her life on the line for complete strangers. Someone might ask why. She knew it was the right thing to do, even though she knew she could have gotten killed for what she was doing. Heroes are not always someone with super powers. Marion Pritchard should be considered a hero because of all the things she had done for other people.

On Anne’s thirteenth birthday she received various presents, but the present that she cherished the most was her diary that she named “Kitty”. The Diary of Anne Frank, captures Anne’s feelings, emotions, thoughts, and events that surrounded her. On May 10, 1940 the German Army invaded the Netherlands, where Anne and her family lived. The invasion caused them to go into secret hiding, because of fear of their life. This was the first measure in the campaign of persecution against the Jews of the Netherlands. A short phrase captures Anne’s emotions about this situation; “Anti-Jewish decrees followed each other in quick succession. Jews must wear yellow star, Jews must hand in their bicycles, Jew are banned from trams and are forbidden to drive. Jews must be indoor by eight o’clock and cannot even sit in their own gardens after hour. Jews may not take part in any public sports. Jews may not visit Christians. Our freedom was strictly limited. Yet things were bearable.” Even though things were tough, Anne always tried to look for the good things in situations and make the best of them.

Almost everyone has heard the legacy about this young, teenage World War II icon. Her story, her family, her personal life, and almost everything in her life; the reason for this was her diary. Her diary was published by her father, Otto Frank. Although some parts edited out, this diary had become well known as a hopeful yet horrifying time for the Jews. The way Anne Frank wrote about her life made all the horrors of the Holocaust real. She was about 13-years-old when she went into hiding with 7 other people in the place they hid called the Secret Annex. Later, they were found and had an inescapable fate with the concentration camp. The concentration camps were full of revolting conditions; over-packed bunks, starvation, disease, overworking of prisoners, torture, and the scent of death always in the air. There were approximately 6 million Jews killed in this terrifying massacre from all around the world. Although Anne frank did not live happily ever after, she made peace at war through her diary. Anne Frank, growing up in with a life everyone wanted and it being taken away and put into hiding, showed the world her survival against all odds. After her dad her dad survived he immediately published her diary. Anne Frank taught us that deep down, people were good at heart, one should make the best of bad situations, and to appreciate what you have. Because life is about living each day you have.

Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl narrates the journey of adolescent Anne Frank during World War II. The diary allows insight into the changes Anne went through during the war after going into hiding to avoid persecution. Over the course of her time in hiding she matured, and used her diary to voice her innermost thoughts and desires. Anne’s diary shows how she came to terms with change as a result of her circumstances, and how she herself changed as a result.

There were the four members of the Frank family, Otto Frank, Edith Frank, Margot and Anne. Three from the Van Pels family, Herman and Auguste Van Pels and their son Peter, and an elderly named Pfeffer. The four people acted as helpers for the Frank family and the people living in the Secret Annex. They brought them food, supplies and news.

World War II is one the most significant events in the entire human history, and it has an enormous influence to the world until today. People’s life had been changed a lot during World War II, and that provided a lot good topic for literary works. The Diary of Anne Frank, a movie about lives of a group of hiding Jews due to Holocaust, it not only showed the cruelty of Nazi, but also showed the emotion changes of a teenage girl.
